Is there any other supposed big club across Europe, let alone these shores, who's fan base is humiliated as often as us THFC fans are...? Yet another season is coming to a end where we are ending up trophyless and us getting dicked big time by other big clubs yet we have the front to take the piss out of AFC for the drought they are suffering/heavy defeats they suffered. They are on course to qualify for the CL again, the 17th season running, and finally end their trophy drought with the FA cup (more than likely). What do we have to look forward to...? When was the last time we reached a FA cp final? Qualified for the CL in successive seasons let alone 17 in a row?

How much more humiliation do we have to put up with as a fan base...?

It's been a really depressing season. I agree it does feel pretty humiliating.

I just say we ride out the meaningless fixtures, celebrate sherwood leaving. Then have a fun world cup and see what happens over the summer.

Who are the longest suffering fans in English football?

As supporters of Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City watch their teams vie for glory this year, the fans of lowly Rochdale, who saw their 'heroes' lose 3-0 on Saturday, have been named the longest-suffering in English football history.

The English National Football Archive (Enfa) was asked to compile a "Long-Suffering Fan Index" and, after crunching data from 220,000 results since the first Football League season in 1888-9 - ranking the current 92 Football League clubs by their lack of success, and weighted by extra factors including the size of their average home crowds - Rochdale came out bottom... or top, depending on your point of view.

Enfa's "Suffering Index" also marks 125 seasons since the Football League's birth - and 150 since the launch of The FA and the rise of modern football.

On the flip side, Manchester United fans, who have endured a fairly torrid season by their own high standards, are historically the least long-suffering in the English game.

So why Rochdale? Well, according to the survery, they have spent more seasons in the bottom flight of English football (78 including this season) than any other team. Indeed, during their 36-year unbroken residence in football's basement from 1974-2010, fans of other clubs have begun to refer to League Two as 'the Rochdale division'.
They also have the lowest average league placing of any team in the Football League - 76th. Rochdale have not won a football competition since joining the Football League in 1921.

The mockers were briefly silenced when the club gained promotion to League One four years ago, but such heights were short-lived, lasting just two seasons.

The 10 clubs with the longest-suffering fans:
RankClubSuffering Index rating

1Rochdale66.12
2Hartlepool United64.72
3Exeter City64.08
4Newport County65.53
5Colchester United63.39
6Southend United63.12
7Torquay United62.96
8Mansfield Town62.90
9Leyton Orient62.83
10AFC Wimbledon62.45

Longest-suffering fans in each division:
Premiership: Stoke City (Fan Suffering Index: 54.72; national rank: 43)
Championship: Bournemouth FC (Fan Suffering Index: 60.26; national rank: 23)
League One: Colchester FC (Fan Suffering Index: 63.39; national rank: 5)
League Two: Rochdale AFC (Fan Suffering Index: 66.12; national rank: 1)

I know a pompey fan, now he is pissed off (and rightly so) with football. I genuinely feel sorry for him. It was funny at first but they got shat on.

Cheer up and enjoy your sig like the rest of us.

OK, when I say the rest of us, I do not include my boss who's just given me a bollocking for 'looking at porn' at work.

I think 'humiliation' is too strong a term. We have been bashed up in a few games but that is not general humiliation. we are a top 7 team in the best league in the world with healthy club finances. We have plans to grow our stadium, grow our global brand and ultimately secure a regular CL spot. We have young talent throughout our current squad and great training faclities.

My cup may well be half full, but yours in most certainly half empty.

I hear what you are saying lads when mentioning Rochdale/Pompey/WHU, but I'm on about clubs with massive fan bases and quality squads like ourselves. Truth is the vast majority of our humiliations are self inflicted sadly....

Why have we been humiliated? Our season hasn't gone as well as it has in the last couple of years but it happens. We played European Football this year and are still challenging for European football. They are plenty of clubs who are in a much worse position than us. We need some perspective.

A lot of fans don't want to win any Micky mouse trophies though.

But it's all relative.
10 years ago we were a mid-table at best club. And had been for quite a while. Now that is humiliating.

Arsenal however were going a whole season unbeaten.
This year they started off talking titles (especially in January) and are now fighting for 4th (for the 3rd year running).

Up until this season, most people would agree we were on a steep upward curve and there was only a fag paper between the two clubs.
Even if we finish 7th, we're nowhere near the humiliation years.

This is a huge summer for us........we get it wrong again and we are heading back to mid-table mediocrity.
I still maintain that not getting Rodgers as our manager is the worst decision we have made in the last 30 years and sweet Jesus we have made some disastrous ones.
We are in turmoil with a group of players who just aren't good enough, we have a manager that the majority of fans don't want, our coaching isn't good enough, our work ethic is pathetic, our winning mentality is non-existant,our scouting is poor and the people making the big decisions are letting everyone down.
Other than that everything is fine.:)

Humiliation is too strong a word. "Let down" works for me.

Humiliation i'll save for if we ever top the table by a couple of points and a game in hand, and we're telling everyone how this is our year, we're going to win the league, then stuff it up totally and watch us slip out of the Champs League places and, despite some desperate efforts getting the odd result, ultimately lose out on 4th to Everton.
