Basically the same stadium.... But turned 90 degrees. The center circle is on top of the High Road apparently. In the plans The Love lane estate is demolished and a walkway goes from a refurbished WHL station to the new ground.

Looks amazing.

In the drawings I have seen it goes underneath the ground. Think Fore street tunnel but on the High Road. It's pretty radical and will change the whole perspective of the area. Apparently work is going to start at the end of the year.

The pictures were hard copy, I am pretty sure people would lose jobs if I took a pic and posted, so I won't do that.

I know it sounds mental, but I'd hope people know I am no WUM.

Cheers for the info Jim and hopefully we will hear more details very shortly.

I have no idea to be honest with you. Seems strange to me too, but I am sure there is some rationale behind it.

Can't see it

We're trying to bring costs down not up

I'm sure you've seen plans but they are probably not the official ones ! (maybe old ones)

I remember old plans like this, what ten/15 years ago

If we have secured the new financing with the naming rights, maybe the larger amount of money would mean a bigger project makes sense imo

You're talking of re-writing the whole project, which would require planning permission and then diverting the high road underneath?

Some one somewhere has got their wires crossed. The updated plans have been released with an extra floor on the Sainsbury's, losing the hotel, building more houses and that's it.
There may be another asking for an increase in the capacity and for the removal of the 4 buildings (this is only rumour so far).
They are not ripping up the plans and starting again it would be madness.

I think, without meaning to be rude, and from no position of authority, you've probably misinterpreted what you've seen. Certainly the plan displayed a couple of weeks ago, with the new stadium approach, made no mention of rotating the stadium. the footprint we have aquired through demolition of exisitng buildings is shaped in such a way as to enable the stadium to be orientated in the way originally planned, and most importantly the exisitng plan allows the stadium to be 3/4 build, overlapping the exising stadium, and then the final end built. If it was flipped through 90 degrees it would make it necessary to demolish the exisiting stadium prior to building the new one. That's overlooking the enormous cost, planning permission implications, english heritage issues and timescale extensions involved in digging down and building a road tunnel underneath the new stadium. I have no concrete information to suggest that what you've heard is wrong, but there are plenty of very solid reasons to believe so.

The High Road in a tunnel under the stadium, eh? Not quite as big a hoot as the stadium on stilts over Lockwood Reservoir, but pretty good.

Don't let your scepticism get the better of you SS57 let your dreams fly free:)

I understood the station refurb meant a new exit on Whitehall road face onto the stadium which is probably the realistic situation, there was a rumour of a bridge but no rotation.

I don't think Jim was saying it was going to be flipped 90 degrees but rotated 90 degrees and moved north so it'd be closer to the station. Which is a good thing if the capacity of the station gets increased on match days too. The Love lane estate he mentions is the flats just outside the station on the way to the ground.

The only reason I can see them doing it is to solve the transport problems but that'd only work if the train companies can and will step up. I can't see it giving us more capacity, although the land between the high road and Worcester road is probably a bit narrower than we'd prefer which limits the footprint of the stadium.

I think we can safely say that the OP is nonsense. Either someone has misread the plans or has looked at the wrong set of plans or is taking the piss.

There are changes to the Southern development - the flats have been heavily redesigned, there is an attempt to remove the listed buildings (we'll see about that one...) and the podium/plaza has been redesigned to accommodate the new design of the flats.

There are changes to the Northern development - a new story on top of the supermarket and the incorporation of an educational facility.

The idea that the stadium has been turned through 90º and is going to cover the High Rd is, charitably speaking, ridiculous.

Agree completely with this. There's no way the OP's suggestion can be cheaper than what the NDP's current scope is.

Is there a meeting at Haringey Council tonight to discuss the Section 106 and changes to the project?
