United can't afford him. And that's not sour grapes that's just a fact. What's United's record transfer fee? 30m? And apart from Berba all those players (roo, rio, veron) were pre Glazers weren't they? United fans can be very arrogant but they need to wake up and smell the coffee because whilst the Glazers remain the days of signing the worlds best are gone (unless they sign 'em young and develop them).

Bale, whilst on a long contract won't leave for less than 50m. And with the new financial regs coming in, unless someone buys him very soon, they just wont be able to afford him unless he runs his contract down.

for me, the debate here is about wages i.e. will we ever be able to match the really big boys? The hype around the kid is getting ridiculous (even Max Clifford has chipped in i see) to a degree that i havent seen for a Spurs player in along time so i think the time will come when he realises that players that arent as good as him earn 3/4x as much. What would Maicon earn - £100k/week minimum? And he took him to the cleaners......so i hope we have the resources to step up when its appropriate and i just hope its possible before we move to the new stadium.

I wish people would get past this, when the financial regs come in, no-one will be paying these absurd wages. Providing he is eraning inline with our top earners I can't see there being a problem

honestly... we finished 4th and played our best consistent football without Bale. He made a contribution in the run in but life before Bale, under Rednapp people very easily forget, was actually GOOOOOD.

therefore if anyone is willing to pay 100m for him which is around a third of a new stadium. Cash in and put the money towards a legacy that will help our football club greater in the long run.

I disagree with you here mate, yes we were playing great football before Bale, but there is no point in building a new stadium etc if we do not have ambition to become one of the wrold's best clubs. You do that by keeping your best players, as it attracts other stars, an example is if we had cashed in on Modric this summer do you think we would now have Van Der Varrt?. We will send out the wrong message if we cash in on Bale no matter how much we get

It's a risk. Aside last night though.. and possibly Man city at home we've not played well enough to be confident we'd be a top 4 team with or without Bale? I love the player i think he's mind blowingly good but no player is worth turning down the funds to build a 3rd of a stadium.

Look at the goons figures. they're gonna be smashing everyone esle when the new regs come into affect, i would honestly take the risk short term and go rape one club of 100m for Bale. Even though it would hurt.

humour me for a moment then - in 2/3 years time, or whenever the new regs come in, Ashley Cole/Maicon/Rooney will be on a fraction of their current wages how? Presumably they run down their current deals (as they wont re-sign for much lower wages) and get a massive signing-on fee from someone offering them much lower wages?

It's basically restricting how much of your profit you're allowed to spend on playing staff. So it won't actually stop anyone paying anything to an individual but will mean others in the squad will have to be paid less or smaller squads assmebled. New signings will ahve be more shrewdly negotiated with interms of thier salary/signing bonus

Man utd will struggle despite thier turnover becasue profit is low/debt high. Chelsea and city will be hampered by thier poor turnover relative to bigger clubs. Ar5ena1 are in the strongest position currently when the rules come in.

Bale is a smart boy, doesn't drink, smoke etc. You can be sure he feels like he owes alot to us and Redknapp so I truly believe he is here long term, before an inevitable move to cardiff to finish out his playing career ofcourse

I think after the last 2 euro nights he is now out of Utd's league (moneywise)

Probably only City and Real could afford him (trust in Levy) unless Abramovich decides to dust off his pockets.

If he chooses to run down his contract then that's his perogative, but still gives us four more years. (although i expect we'll be offering him a new 5 year deal in January...)

That's hit the nail on the head. Redknapp remains publicly diplomatic about not valuing Bale and insisting that Spurs wouldn't entertain any offers, but I'm fairly certain it would take bids of around £50mil to even turn the club's head. He's only 21 and has annihilated the best right back in the world twice, scored a hat-trick away at the San Siro and set up a few goals too - and that's just in the space of 2 games. He'll only get better.

Man Utd simply don't have £50mil to spend on one player. I actually doubt they even have £50mil to spend full stop. They [supposedly] told Rooney that they were going to buy big but I would imagine that was simply to prolong his contract so that he couldn't go for free in 18 months time. He'll be out of Utd in 2 years and they'll make £40mil out of him.

All I've heard from Redknapp in the last 2 weeks is that Bale is the nicest lad, low-maintenance and just loves to play football and work hard. That doesn't sound like a player that is motivated by money and the grass being greener at a club like United. He is at club with as good a pedigree as Man United, with as good coaching staff and, arguably, better players around him. The only thing about them that is bigger than us is the stadium.

We're finally in a position where we don't need to sell to clubs like United or Chelsea. The only reason they want him is because they fear him. He's signed a new 5-yr deal in the Summer but I wouldn't bet against him having an improved contract in January.

He turned United down 4 years ago and he wont go there now. Why fix what aint broke?!

Barca, Madrid and City are the only ones who could afford him, possibly Chelsea too, and I would be slightly more concerned when [it's inevitable] one of those comes knocking. I have faith, though, that he'll stay because he knows how much he's improved under the current set-up.

maybe united cant afford bale outright, doesnt stop them from offering alot of their junk to us though in exchange

would anyone accept:

Carrick
Berbatov
Park and Valencia
as well as 10 million cash?

im pretty sure the answer would be no, and so it should be

Chuck John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Michael Owen's left ovary and a family pack of beef monster munch into the mix and you've got yourself a deal.
