England captain Harry Kane took responsibility for the Three Lions' FIFA World Cup 2022 quarter-final exit at the hands of reigning champions France. Strikes from Aurelien Tchouameni and Olivier Giroud helped France beat England 2-1 at Al Khor on Sunday and march into the semifinals of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022. Kane had a chance to score the equaliser in the final few minutes of the match through a penalty, but he missed possibly the most decisive penalty of his side's campaign.

"A World Cup is every four years. It is a long time to wait. I am proud of the boys. We had a great camp, a great World Cup and it's come down to small details which I'll take responsibility for," Skysports quoted Kane as saying.

"I am not worried about the team and how it is going to affect them. We've got some great talent. It'll hurt, not just for me but everyone involved, but that's football, that's sport. You have to take that on the chin sometimes and move forward," he further stated.

Love you Harry. We had 8 shots on target last night and Harry made 4 of them. It's no coincidence that England's improved performances, the best in decades, has been with Harry leading the line.

It's a great shame, of course, that on the night Harry equalled Rooney's England scoring record, in 40 fewer games, all that will be remembered is the penalty miss.

Over the next few games we need to show our appreciation and love for one of our all time greats by repeatedly chanting his name and his song.

Don't think anyone has to 'take responsibility' for anything personally. They all gave it their best shot but ultimately the defenders couldn't keep them out just as much as we didn't score enough goals. That's life. Millions of people had a much worse day yesterday than any of our footballers.

Four out of ten penalties have been missed so far on this World Cup during ninety minutes of any game.

Perspective needed.

Very cruel on Harry. A great shame and perspective is needed. He has been a great servant for England and this should not be forgotten. Hope he doesn’t beat himself up and is soon banging in the goals for Spurs again.

I didn't see Harry losing the only man in the box (Giroud) to put France 2-1 up...

Good for him taking responsibility even through he didn't/doesn't need to.

That's what s good captain does.

all on Southgate. He deserves credit for getting England players united again but he isn’t top manager. We lost that game because of his loyalties to average players.

The 'average players' who outplayed the World champions over the course of the game you mean?

This is a half-baked view I have based on nothing but I always feel a player should never take 2 penalties in a game. It's like they frazzle their own brains trying to out-think the keepers.

Out of interest, who were the average ones and who would you have replaced them starts with the goalkeeper and CBS. It’s criminal that pope hasn’t been 1st choice for years. The monopoly that Stones and Maguire have had is just as bad. We’re in a situation where we have good younger CBS playing in the pl and Serie A that haven’t been given enough cap’s because Southgate persisted with these two average CBS. Sterling and mount killed our momentum when they came on. It will get glossed over because mount won the pen. But in reality it was like watching winks watching mount. I thought France managed the game really I don’t think we out played them at all.

IMO SOuthgate made mistakes. The tactics were wrong early on giving France the initiative. When Foden was brought into the game more things changed.

Also before Giroud scored he had threatened to do so on two or three occasions within minutes. The team had lost some energy which clearly the French saw and went for the kill. Spaces opened up to enable chances to be created that had not been there for the whole match. We can blame the defence but it was clear to me that there was a more general tiredness and subs were needed immediately. Southgate waited too long. Sure once made, too late, we took control again.

Harry missed the penalty which is the flash point we all remember though for me the crucial mistake had been made earlier. Seems like it's not just a Spurs thing but an English one to wait until you are losing before doing anything ambitious.
