So was our NET spend zero again?
I believe we made a net profit of £10-15m (depending how much we actually pay for Sanchez after add-ons).

Although we often break even or make a slight profit in transfer windows, we do tend to have one final target that falls through. For example, this time we missed out on Barkley, but last summer we signed Sissoko at the eleventh hour and made a net loss.

I like that we're firmly in the square of the next big clubs in Europe. Taken a while but we are now one of the tier 2 clubs. I wonder what the other clubs in that square are that haven't been named

Might go to show where our money has gone in the last 9 years. 56% has gone on capital expenditure. That is stadium and training ground.

This should go in the transfer thread so the people who keep asking why we haven't bought anyone yet can have a read through

I think a few things combined that got us over excited. The itk stating we had a big budget(which still may be true). Poch saying he wanted to be brave and then signing new contract. And the Kane signing. Made everyone dismiss the stadium a bit. Who knows it may still be a good window. But most are currently feeling a little deflated. The hope I hang on to is that we only need 2 or 3 if just dembele leaves.

We need a few more to leave. But might be able to wait till after our window closes.

I never believed we had a big budget. It just doesn’t sound like us to go out and blow £100 million net on players. Why would Levy change a life time of dealing in the transfer window and start chucking cash at it, I just can’t see it. The only time we went on a spree is when we were buying players before selling bale. I suspect we will have a net spend similar to last summer but it will depend on funds we raise by selling players. Hopefully though the itk is correct though like you say.

Yeah i think this is the problem, people take it all so literally then get all upset when it doesn't happen...almost like the club itself has promised this huge spend then not delivered.
Poch himself came out and said that the new stadium wont mean we'll instantly have money to burn, but that gets conveniently ignored and people rather believe anonymous posters on the internet.
No doubt we'll be spending more on wages in future, but thats just going towards Kane and hopefully Dele/Erikssen/Jan new contracts.

The ironic thing is if you look at our best xi 15/16 to 17/18 it’s virtually the same. If anything slightly weaker on paper 17/18 and we still came 3rd playing at Wembley. Not saying we don’t need a couple in but pointless comparing business to Arsenal or West Ham they need complete re builds.

We have a different ethos to the other top 6 teams.
For the last ten years it was long term planning and spending on infrastucture while trying to be clever in the market.
Arsenal were similar till kronke took over and basically used arsenal as a financial base to fund his other interests.

Would i'd have preferred a sheik or roman to lewis. Yes. Can't lie.

But we got what we have. And levy has done a great job with the tools he was given.

He’s built a lot of the tools himself too

It is all well and good having a big budget but we are still competing with high quality teams for the pool of players we want to acquire.

Names like De Ligt get mentioned. He is s high profile young player and will be expensive. If we are willing to pay the money then great, but he still then needs to want to join us above other interested parties.

I think the money is clearly "there" to replace the two Belgians, with the majority rightly concerned that if we don't replace them with quality that will create a risk to maintaining our top 4 status. (Winks and Foyth are good but we need more.)

Despite the hike in ST prices, most I think would be cool with that, and understand a £100m total package for Martial or even more for Bale for example isn't a risk worth taking.

If ENIC don't make the money available, and we do slip away next season, they will begin to feel some pain at the turnstiles in 19/20. Not that they'd care, mind...

But surely you understand there is more to signing Bale than simply putting up the money?

the thing is, we have a few players we want rid out of our squad, and perhaps the expectations haven't materialised. we have had news that Toby, Dembele, Janssen, N'Kouduo and others are available, yet at the moment none have gone, and other than Janssen any real bids that meet Levy's price has come in.

no good going out and buying 4 new toys, if no wants to buy the old ones that need to go. No way will Levy want to be paying wages for players we don't want, which could effect what he will go to for the new ones.

edit: Sanchez has signed a new contract too, I expect the main squad will all see an increase

You're right but when you say we've had news, it's nothing but internet rumours really.
