Anyway, I loved Paul Allen when I was a kid. A proper right sided midfielder, with creativity and graft in his game, as well as the odd timely goal.
Also, from that era (as it was when I started supporting Spurs) can I make a call for Pat Van Den Hauwe? Absolute nails that bloke.
I've met Iversen several times in Norway and he'd be the first to admit that he himself was at least as culpable as the medical staff. He liked (and likes) a good party, he didn't always work hard and live well enough to stay fit and healthy.
He was really good when fit, though.
Paul Allen was my favourite player for a while. I loved his work ethic and how he'd take on his man and try and open things up. He also lived in the same town as me so I saw him around town from time to time. My and one of my mates still call him 'Local' when we talk about the old players.
He was player/coach but from what I last heard he stopped playing completely in the autumn, can't remember exactly what but either his knees or hips are pretty much fecked. He became a regular on Norway's version of Soccer Saturday this season.I read that he is still playing in Norway in the 4th division.
I've a soft spot for Iversen, having watched him score a hat-trick in a pre-season friendly and getting his autograph in what must have been 1999, so I followed his post-Spurs career closely when he returned to Norway, with clips of all RBK and Vålerenga matches available online.I've met Iversen several times in Norway and he'd be the first to admit that he himself was at least as culpable as the medical staff. Funny, everyone worked well with Aaron Lennon... Can I just say Aaron Lennon? Is that too obvious?Paul Stalteri.
Did the double in Germany with Bremen (unthinkable now) played in the final 16 of the Champions League and signed up for a then very mid table Spurs side. Could run all day long and worked very well with a very young Aaron Lennon. If Poch the Full Back Whisperer could have got his hands on him, he may have been something more.
Not the best RB ever but he was an upgrade for us at the time and in his first season with YP Lee on the other side we finished 5th and haven't really looked back since. Just deserves a bit more credit than he got at the time IMO.
And of course "that" West Ham goal.
That's a good shout. V tidy player. My most vivid memory of him was when he was at West Ham and the youngest player to appear in an FA Cup Final. At the time, I think this was the most Arsenal thing possible. About 3:05 in:
Nayim deserves a special mention in this thread. I can't remember ever seeing him doing anything of note for us, but he obviously scored that goal in the final minute of extra time in the cup winners cup final to break Arsenal hearts and become a belated Tottenham hero....
I remember a belting half volley at Maine Road... Was so good the Man City fans went apeshit and invaded the pitch, resulting in mounted police getting involved.
At least I think it was that game... May be getting mixed up.
Sandro I think.
What a man.
Come on, if you're going to use first names of players, at least use the right names......Probably Sandro or Winston, thinking about it. Same principle, flawed players who I loved when they played for us. We're spoilt now, but back then I'd be happy if we made a few good tackles in a game.
