Great idea in theory .But you can’t have a World Cup in starting mid June when you don’t even know who’s qualified.Could do it in non tournament years though.
That's what I mean

World Cup Qualifiying groups in summer 2017, World Cup 2018, Euros qualifying 2019, Euros 2020 etc.

That would mean players would be in loads of matches every summer which would fuck them up.

Yeah you can’t have that be 10 games in a summer lol .Basically there’s no need for these friendlies 8 months before a tournament,it’s just money making for FA.These 2 weeks could be pushed to January and have a winter break.Friendlies are fine in build up to tournament. But utterly pointless now.

Kane had his hamstring problem, now a nasty looking twisted knee.
Winks took a whack on his ankle; not sure if it was the one weakened by his ligament injury at Burnley in April.

Both are likely to be central to Southgate's plans. Kane's a given who would seemingly play every game if given the choice.
Winks will start for England, trust me. He's so different, only wilshere comes close. But he'll want to play in the friendlies to cement his place.

Poch & Southgate need to put their mind at ease about the next 10 days & explain how important they'll be next June.

I can't remember which ankle it was at the weekend but it was definitely his left ankle that he hurt last season.

For England they are friendlies, but others are playing WC qualifiers. Timing of the break is needed now so those matches can be played.

Not over the whole summer
If the season was cut to say Sep-Apr followed by 6-8 weeks of football they would have some of June, July and some of August off.

Last summer there was an international break not long after the season finished. So players had a week or two off, played in June and back in pre-season a couple of weeks later. This year they will play up until May, go straight to an England camp and to Russia for a month or so and back in pre-season in July. This is hardly an outlandish idea

They could revert the Champions League to be for Champions only and have it in a straight knockout format. Also they could exclude top flight clubs from the league cup. They could reduce the premier league to 18 clubs. They could also schedule the ACN every four years (inline with the other continental international tournaments) instead of every other year. That would all reduce player burnout and make space for the World Cup to regain its place as the most important football tournament. But no one would want any of that. So it won't happen.

How would they decide who qualifies for the tournaments in the summer?

The cynic in me thinks the England physios thing is bollox, probably all agreed between Poch and Southgate on Sunday to let them rest, Southgate knows Poch is the one manager he should be keeping sweet and fucking right too.
I'd send Harry away for a few days in the sun, the lad deserves a break.

Kane definitely went up to St Georges Park .100% full bonie fidie ITK on that one.

so teams would qualify one summer to play the next summer.....as they are qualifying the same summer for next seasons one?!
Eh?
Qualifying groups this year finished in October for a June tournament. 8-9 months before it starts. What’s 2 months extra? Okay I get there are play offs now but the format can be revamped

I don’t know, in my head it seems like something that could work. I don’t think it’s completely ridiculous. You would have no injuries throughout the season arising from international breaks, you would get one squad picked based on how the season went so skip all the bullshit throughout the year on ‘why isn’t so&so picked?’ And you would separate international and domestic football

I’ve actually thought about this before and just can’t see it working.theres now x4 breaks 2 weeks each.so let’s just say you start season at same time mid aug and finish 6 weeks earlier start April. You still have FA Cup final and CL final. So the earliest qualifiers could start is Say May 7 th.Pre season starts usually July 1st-7th.Players generally need 3 weeks minimum rest. So qualifiers would have to finish June 10th.So that gives you 5 weeks to play 10 games.Thats Basically a game every 3 days probably in scorching heat in some countries with all the travel in between off the back of a 10 month season. Its just not feasible. At least players now get alternative summers off which is much needed.
