Competition for places, especially with Moura arriving, always gets the performance up. Look at Walker after Trippier arrived.

Definitely this. the only assured starters when fit I’d say are Kane Eriksen alderweireld. Some may say vertonghen but in a back 4 Poch may want sanchez pace.Anyway all good.

Imo Lloris is a guaranteed starter. Though - whisper it - some think he could be upgraded.

(Presumably with Inspector Gadget limb extensions, or something.)

Some may say Vertonghen? Have you even seen him play in the past 2 seasons he's been one of the best CB's on the planet! He's up there with Kane and Eriksen in terms of importance.

I wouldn’t disagree. But I still think the only weakness with Alderweireld/vertonghen and a high line is pace in behind. Tbh that’s really why Toby/Sanchez/jan is perfect.

I would argue jan has been better than Toby for 18 months now. I realise Toby has been injured on and off for that period but as it stands I prefer jan

If Vertonghen isn't in the team of the season, done by another CB in Carragher, it will say it all.

To me Verts this season is having the best season I have ever seen a spurs defender have, his been insanely good, one of the first names on teamsheet for me

Toby is more vocal though, and I think it's the organisation he brings that elevates our performances with him in the team.

As an aside to that point, I think this is one thing that we still don’t have enough of in our squad. Someone to give out bollockings on the pitch when the team is losing concentration/focus during matches.

Do i presume you mean we must win rather than not lose? cos not lose could = draw which imo is not good enough in your quest for 2nd..

Btw i would settle for any top 4 position if it was offered to me right now...(with the fa cup thrown in ofc)

You only have to see the difference in us at Wembley with the addition of Sanchez to realise the Toby/Verts compo with a high line, lacks pace

Not sure if posted elsewhere. Apologies if so.

Little bit at the end of an article in today's London Evening standard...

Meanwhile, Harry Winks and Erik Lamela have returned to full training and the latter is in contention to face the Cottagers at the weekend.

Really hoping Winks can put these injuries behind him. I truly believe that he's going to become a top CM.

As for Lamela. After all he's been through, I reckon he's chomping at the bit to show what he can really produce.

A most welcome, and dare I say needed bit of positivity.
