Agree. You cant cater for Kane, Sissoko, and Alli all getting injured the same week Son fks off for the Asian Cup.
Its like Liverpool losing Salah, Mane and Firmino and Fabino in the same fkin week.
Would the media be saying they dont have squad depth and should have spent more in the summer? Doubt it.
Would they struggle slightly?
I think they might. Anyone would. Its just utter shite timing.
Agree it's shit timing, but the likelihood of shit timing happening to a squad increases when its overstretched and overworked. We had plenty of warning signs in CM with Vic and Dembele for example. That alone had plenty of knock-on effects re use and overuse of other key players in different positions from CMs, AMs and forwards.

Just waiting for Klopp to come out and say how lucky we continue to be with injuries.

I would love to see how they would cope with an injury crisis as ours.

I agree with the pundits that we have a thin squad when they compare us to City, but Liverpool? Their sqaud depth is shallower than a rain puddle in Sahara.

Such a dick thing for him to say. Our injury issues are insane. How well do you think Liverpool would do if they lost Mane, Salah, Firmino, Windaulum, Milner, Fabinho and Van Dyke all at the same time? We've had our best CB missing for two months, Dier, Wanyama and Dembele All out for a long period. Rose out for ages. Now Kane, Dele out for a spell. Eriksen also missed a few weeks. I don't give a shit what anyone says. We've had a nightmare season with injuries. Liverpool wouldn't be anywhere close to where they are if they had to contend withour injury situation.... And also didn't sign a single player over the summer. Fact is, we have no business doing as well as we have. It's quite incredible.

I get the impression that the same people who say we couldn’t have foreseen glaring weaknesses in our squad are the same ones who continually blame referees and bad luck for all of our defeats.

To be fair, a hell of a lot on here were highlighting these weaknesses before the opening of the transfer window in the summer, let alone this current window. It’s not a bunch of Johnny come lately types suddenly bringing up our midfield issues and lack of Kane cover. It’s old news

Do you think?

The other week they rested their entire front line against Wolves in the cup. They got knocked out of course, but they had Sturridge and Origi on the pitch. They’d both start 100% for us right now. As would our other rivals reserve forwards.

Anyway, our real issue is midfield as everyone knows. We’ve been lucky in that position up until now this term.

Just waiting for Klopp to come out and say how lucky we continue to be with injuries.
On the 22nd December Klopp said...

"We are all the challengers," he told Sky Sports. "But not only City. Tottenham have so many injury problems, the shortest break after the World Cup.

"I don't know how many Belgian and English players they had, no pre-season and won all the games in a difficult situation."

“It’s just a fantastic football team. I said a few times that for me Tottenham had the most difficult pre-season, and not due to not signing players because if you have the right team then why should you sign players? But they had eight or nine players who played the full World Cup, and so far their season is more than impressive."

And on the 11th January he said "We already have problems. I saw Chelsea v Tottenham with both benches full, full squads, lucky them."

Think they're stronger squad-wise than we are. They got the financial backing from their board. Got Keita and Fabinho in recent transfer windows for eg.

Plenty of our key players played in the WC. We got to the semis. Liverpool's didn't apart from Lovren. Their key acquisitions/deployments have happened in defence. Klopp has done a great job in addressing their squad needs. Roberston, TAA, Gomez (although injured ) have been great as FBs/WBs sometimes covering CB positions. All young and don't have the long-term PL and international mileage on their legs like our defensive options do. Key players like Mane and VVD didn't have a WC to disrupt their pre season.

They've been lucky re injuries, and re the success of their academy/youth players, but their squad depth and investment in that squad have been key components.

To be fair I'd say Klopp was trying to rationalize his decision (amid criticism) of not playing a full strength team against Wolves. Once the headline writers and click baiters got a hold of it, it looks like he was ignoring our injuries and he's got a lot of stick for it.

However, I was just saying that in reality he obviously knows we've had a difficult time and actually somewhat admires how well we've done considering our injury problems, but that wasn't as widely reported as a quip/excuse for his playing a weakened side that lost.

On Alli’s injury, Pochettino added: “It is in the left hamstring, I hope it is not a massive problem, but we will need to assess.”

He pulled up a couple games ago clutching his left hamstring.. And only missed one game I think. It was when he got clattered by the keeper. Can't rememeber. Brain fail.. But probably related and we played him while injured. Now things are worse.

Let’s try and get Zaha NOW

One of the only players around that challenges the 1st XI

Would give us instant options and give everyone a bit of help and more legs

Treading water and wasting his talent at Palace

Imagine what Poch could do with him...

I simply don't see any flaw in this master plan.
