There were mixed results as Euro 2012 qualification kicked off for a number of our players on Friday night.

Gareth Bale and Wales did not get off to the best of starts with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Montenegro, coached by Niko's dad Zlatko Kranjcar, in England's Group G.

Niko himself, along with Vedran Corluka, played 90 minutes as Croatia comfortably won 3-0 away in Latvia in Group F. On loan goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa was an unused substitute in that game.

Robbie Keane was also victorious as he captained the Republic of Ireland to a hard-fought 1-0 win in Armenia in Group B, which also features Russia, who beat minnows Andorra 2-0 away from home with Roman Pavlyuchenko a late substitute.

Rafael Van der Vaart also came off the bench as Holland put San Marino to the sword with a comfortable 5-0 win over the Group E minnows.

But there were no goals on Alan Hutton's return to action after injury as Scotland were held to a 0-0 draw in Lithuania in Group I.

Meanwhile, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker both played 90 minutes as England U21 gained a vital three points in their Euro qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win in Portugal.

Poor Micky D. Hope it's not as bad as it looked. Just as well Gallas signed now. I hope Dawson is ok.

    Get well soon lad.

poor lad, played his heart out last season and then he gets what potentially looks like a long termer.
  3. StuckinPoland
not seen it...but, was the (in)famous Wembley pitch part of it?

if it was, can we sue?

guaranteed ligament damage. from the look of how he fell together with the amount of pain he showed i would suggest he has (partially) torn his medial collateral ligament, perhaps one of the cruciate ligaments and maybe the meniscus (cartilage). Best case scenario, out for 2 weeks, worst case out for 9 months - 1 year. poor lad was in a lot of pain

With Woodgate not fit and Daws now injured we have mainly left footers at CB, only Ledley can play on either side comfortably. Gallas and Bassong are both lefties.

    gallas is right footed

Dawson is the least deserving of any player of a long term injury, I am devastated! I just hope its a 6-10 week one and he will still get to take part in our Champions League campaign, one which he lead the team so immensley towards!

On the cover issue, we do have options. King, Gallas, Kaboul and Bassong, with Corluka, Hudd and Sandro all able to play there. There is also the opportuity to blood young Caulker in the CC (of the bench) and Walker has also done well there in pre-season!

The commentators before the match were full of praise for the state of the pitch, which had been re-engineered over the summer. However, weaving in a plastic mesh gives the pitch more resilience but also has the effect that players' studs do not slide through freely, and can get caught in the mesh. When this happens, all the energy is transfered to the players' joints, making ankle and knee ligament injuries more common.

To be fair, there are plenty of mesh-supported pitches around (Old Trafford uses this system) but, at a guess, I'd say that the Wembley authorities were so spooked by the endemic problems with the pitch that they've had to turn a blind eye to the potential risks to the players.

As for taking legal action, I understand that if (God forbid) MD is out of action for a while, Spurs can make a claim against the FA because the injury occurred while the player was playing on their behalf.

Yes I just read that elsewhere. I hadn't realised as he usually plays left side.
  10. mawspurs
I believe our own pitch uses this weave method too.

So, seeing as i couldn't be arsed to watch England/Bulgaria and have only just read up on the events, why did Berbatov not play? Was he scared?

He have face like chicken face?
    He like yellow Samalar hound?
