Is he a Spurs fan? Mr jimbo told me he was. And I want to believe him.

I'm pretty sure jimbo's right. I think he only admitted it after he retired because he was afraid of being accused of bias.

I hope he is a Spurs fan. He certainly should be. It's an absolute scandal that the Beeb consistently overlooked him in favour of the clearly inferior Motson for big games, eventually forcing him into retirement while Motty continues chuckling his way inanely through games.

I was sat behind the Spurs bench for that game.
Gazza had a Hernia Op 18 days (iirc) before the semi, came back and scored that blinder.
Remember my mate saying he's gonna shoot and i said 'he's not that stupid' !!
When Gazza came off, he was absolutely buzzing on the bench, egging the spurs fans on, singing and dancing on the bench.

Spent this evening reading the Hoddle and Gazza threads - both absolute legends. However Hod was for me a class above.

Loved this goal, I remember the game as if it were yesterday!

Barry Davies was always my favourite, such a brilliant commentator. He was very passionate

Football was alot more important to me back then (natural when you are a kid that football is your life) so it could well also have been one of the best footballing memories to date (but then the final was great too)

Although I will say the Carling Cup win against Chelsea was great as I was at Wembley (the first and most likely only time I have seen us live at Wembley)

Can you believe I think this is the first time I actually seen it!
It's not my fault though it was about a year before I was born :)

What!?!?

I think I've seen this goal more times than I've seen my own hands.

Can you imagine the Motson-Lawrenson Axis of Nonsense coming up with anything to match the beauty of "That... is Schoolboys' Own stuff" or "Lineker uses him by not using him".
Motson would be talking a load of shite about what had happened at that particular time in a previous match.

I remember that freekick as if it was yesterday. 10 year old at Wembley, having been going to the Lane since I was 5 and watching us destory Arsenal. Amazing.

Even better than the final against Forrest.

I used to know the exact time "it" happened, that Gascoigne magical moment, but for the life of me I can't remember any more.

I seem to remember it was a really early kick-off that day, I think it was noon. So by my reckoning "it" happened at approximately 12.04.

I immediately put my pants in the wash.

Wish I was old enough to have been there and remember it, even watching the video brings out the goosebumps though!

Lets hope in 20 years time we'll be looking back at the 5-1 in the same way.

Dougal, you are so getting repped for this if I can work out how to do it, never done it before. Thanks for the happy memories I´m 36 and it was half my life ago....fuck me. I was there on the day after having to get vouchers by going to QPR and Coventry matches with 3 mates from school and then queueing up on a Sunday morning to get the tickets. But all worth it in the end....

I was at the other end to where the gazza goal went in as most Spurs fans were but at our end for the 2nd lineker goal, Spurs third and the one that meant the final.

Magic, cheers!

^^^ I can see myself on the video on about the 76th minute.
One of theirs I think it was Paul davis was taking a throw in and I'm against the fencing in the background singing "Come on You Spurs".
Happy days indeed:grin:

Beautiful goal!!! This is one of the earliest Spurs games I still remember (this, and Hoddle's last game for us). I think this was one of the best coached games I have ever seen......Venners was such a great coach for us.

The game was on ESPN classic today (channel 442). I naturally recorded it and am now enjoying watching it.

'That is one of the finest free kicks, this stadium has ever seen'
