Is the real Erik Lamela finally standing up?

Is this a new version of Erik Lamela? Two months into the season the Argentine midfielder has five goals already and is looking sharper, stronger and more dangerous than he ever has done for Tottenham Hotspur. For much of his time here, Lamela has looked as if he would not quite fulfil the promise inherent in Spurs paying Roma €30million for him in 2013. This season those expectations may finally be met.

Been waiting 5 years to see this. This is what I thought we were getting. A tricky, fast, direct, attacking player who scored and creates. Not a nasty little shit that tackles a bit and gets injured.

Fair play.

I look forward to the sound of chomping as his detractors tuck into their humble pie. The man has a will of iron.
A fit Lamela is like a new £70M signing. His attitude is amazing. Though he looked upset at being substituted on Saturday, Poch is right to manage his playing time wisely. Couldn't afford to have him on the treatment table for lengthy spells this season. Same goes for Winks, another immensely talented player with injury issues.

Did you see him after the match seeking out Sissoko to congratulate him? Leadership, writ large.

You seem to forget that he was starting to come good towards the end of the 14/15 season, then was pretty much consistently very good the whole of the 15/16 season, being an instrumental part of the team that season.

He was never a 'nasty little shit'. Never seen him injure anyone from playing the way he does. And the up close and personal pressing style is exactly what Poch has been encouraging through the years ill bet.

Some people like to forget inconvenient facts. Thanks for highlighting his contributions.

Erik is pure Ganbatte... Poch wishes he had 10 more of him I'll wager.

As Kane, Eriksen, Alli are more or less out of form Lamela will be pivotal for us this season. It's really a blessing that he has kicked on at this particular moment.

Must have been wiped from my mind. Thought the off game aside, he's never been the player we thought we were getting from Roma.

I am here saying he's been excellent this season. That's that the article is about. I'm happy he's come good.

This is a case of the player being loved and accepted by the club management.

They have really given him a great deal of support, and he is repaying his due.

He has good qualities as a footballer and his attitude is spot on for what fans want in a player.

Testament to both player and club on this revival.

He's so unique in that he allows us flexibility in that he can be a creative player from a wide position. Most wingers are just a little more one dimensional than he. He can do everything you want from an offensive perspective in dribbling, shooting, passing. Only Eriksen beats him in his quality and ability on the ball IMO.

most agree, although the one thing i would say he can improve is his right foot. He is very left foot dominant.

He get's round it so well, it's not clearly obvious he is one sided.

But a switched on defender would show him to the right and limit (not stop entirely) his attacks.

Has always had the quality and great to see him prove some of his detractors wrong. He is an International for Argentina, they have had a few good ones over the years. Also, who could ever forget him stepping on Fabregas, and calling Wilshere a pussy. Already a Spurs legend. COYS.
