The Dutch speak almost perfect English. They must be wondering what the hell is going on when they have got an English guy who talks like he doesn't know the language at all in charge of one of their top clubs.

I'm not arguing, I'm enquiring as I know nothing about Dutch football, but are Twente a big club? I thought we were getting the hump when van Rapist (allegedly) likened them to us, weren't we getting mad because we perceive ourselves to be better than them? If we met them in cup competition I think I'd be expecting us to win?

Please correct me if wrong, like I said, not arguing, just enquiring

No I don't think they are a big club, I imagine they are relatively small, but the fact they qualified for the Champions League suggests at least last season they were one of Hollands top clubs. Yes I would expect us to beat them in a cup competition as well.

i guess, because he's been speaking to so many Dutchers, the way he communicates with them has rubbed off on him...

Like when I was lost abroad once I was asking directions in some fucked up broken English in a bid for them to be able to understand more easily...

Most Dutch people do speak English with an accent, particularly the less educated, such as footballers. After a month of speaking English with Dutch footballers he will have unconsciously adopted the accent when speaking to them, because it is easier for them to understand. Probably a mistake to use the same accent when speaking to a Dutch journalist, though she herself has the same accent.

not sure about that, having lived there a long time I still speak English with an Irish accent ( although slightly slower than I do back home ) , McClaren is trying to be smart and its backfired big time

Some scamp probably told him that learning Dutch is just like talking French was in 'Allo 'Allo.
