Hardly missed out on Oscar, we just couldn't afford him. That's like saying I missed out on that Aston Martin because I only have 50 quid and some mints on me.

We could afford him, it just wouldn't be prudent to. Missed out on Aston Martin because we paid our mortgage and bills instead.

I believe what he meant (and I really believe this is what he meant by it as it seems obvious) is that we 'missed out' on Oscar meaning we waited too long to show serious interest.

Just like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, if we would have went hard this summer we were looking somewhere between 8-10m for him. Now that he's off to a great start and he's still of course young, that price will skyrocket.

So, by waiting just 6 months to put in a serious bid, we could not only cost ourselves a ton of money if we did indeed earn his signature, but we could risk losing out completely as the bigger boys come to the table to bid.

We put in a big bid, it leaks and Chelsea put in a bigger bid.

Really?
Good start to the season and all but does he have the potential to be a top premier league player?

Yes he is very good and getting better, can see a team like Everton, Newcastle, Liverpool or us signing him in January

Newcastle wanted him in the summer but his dad told him to stay with Blackpool

Also he doesn't need to settle in unlike Isco, Draxler, Alen Halilovic and Kovacic

Liverpool only got rid of him recently? January 2011 maybe or last summer? Not sure they'd go back and spend big money on someone they just recently cast aside.
But I get your point, just using them as an example. He's look decent. Think it was a league cup game I seen him in this season. But not sure if he's noticeably better then Townsend. Yet anyway.

Article on Tottenham and Isco from today

Who needs Isco and Moutinho when we have..( insert average squad player name).. anyway

http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/...am-lost-them-isco-on-transfer-deadline-day-bu

Tottenham in the final week of the transfer window resembled a 2am nightclub drunk stumbling around women in a state of panic having seen the girls they really fancied leave with different men already. Tales of Daniel Levy flying around Europe and being laughed out of clubs were coupled with a persistent link with Joao Moutinho.

In the end they got Clint Dempsey and Hugo Lloris in the final hours but if a Tottenham representative had been successful then it would have been much better than that. AS today say that Ian Broomfield, before he left the club, traveled to Malaga on behalf of Spurs and was hoping to fix up a deal for Isco.

At the time Isco's buy-out clause was €21m, it rises by €1m a year until 2016. Tottenham offered €12m plus Giovani Dos Santos and had their offer refused. AS claim it was this which delayed the transfer of Dos Santos to Mallorca, which was only completed on transfer deadline day.

It's quite an in-depth report, given that it names Broomfield, and if it's true it does make you wonder if Tottenham's frugality holds them back. The sale of Dos Santos to Mallorca will have brought a few million in and to reach the converted buy-out clause of £17m would have been a great deal to get Isco.

AS say it's possible Spurs could be back in come the summer when they would have to match his buy-out clause.

We could have afforded him if we had tried a year ago. The same thing will happen with Isco.

townsend has had just shy of 50 games in the championship and hasn't had the impact that tom ince is having at the moment, plus ince is a year younger.

I disagree, for Leeds Andros had a big impact as he was the only player who looked any decent and at millwall and Birmingham he was used in a disciplined team where he had a job to do whereas Ian allows his players to have creative freedom and they play a much better brand of football which helps ince.

http://sportsvibe.co.uk/news/footba...t-on-malaga-star-isco-on-deadline-day-19782/?

So apparently Isco's buyout clause is €21m rising by another €1m for each year that he stays with Malaga. I'm even annoyed hearing that now because I think he's already well worth that amount. We should have just gone and paid it rather than faffing about with bids of 12m plus Gio (I understand that there are tax considerations, but with Malaga's financial predicament I suspect that they would have accepted).

I know you can say that we must be frugal but Isco is such a talent that I find it highly unlikely that his value will not rise considerably beyond that buyout clause in the future. £16-17m on Isco would have been a far more sensible investment for us than the £22-24m that we offered for Moutinho - reason being that Isco's future sell on value will at least hold and more likely sky rocket down the line. Moutinho's on the other hand would begin to decrease after a couple of years. Wages would have been less of an issue with Isco too presumably.

Oh well too late now. Even if we were to match the clause in January I don't think that Isco would choose to come at that stage. He's been awesome in these opening couple of months of the season and as a result his profile is growing at a hypersonic rate. The biggest beasts will now be hovering. He'll wait for them.

Now that would be funny. £12m minimum I reckon:LOL:

As I said a few weeks ago:

I hope we go for Isco. Dembele is a great player, but Isco is going to be a superstar in a year or two, and someone that we'd need to sign now before he's put in that £30 million bracket.

Think he is the sort of player we need in behind Ade or Defoe. More of a live wire who will run at defenders and push them back. Whereas Sigurdsson and Dempsey don't have that movement.
