To debate two of the writers points:
Firstly I'm not so sure Liverpool will finish like they did last year with a strong top-4 finish; life without Suarez could be like life without Bale was for Spurs.
Secondly, there's Man.U. Will spending all that money ensure they too make the top-4? Again I'm not so sure; this season those top three/four places are not so nailed-down as they have been in the past. Then there's Arsenal and Everton to beat, but hopefully last weekends performance have given the team some belief?
Spurs could finish strongly themselves; Walker should be back healthy which should really solidify our back-line and some of our attacking mid-fielders (Lamela, Eriksen et.al.), should improve;especially under Pochetto.
This just might be the year we sneak in; I can maybe see a real point-gap between second and third places...but Spurs will obviously have to improve and Management will HAVE to improve the team up front in January.
So I still think the slightly better way for Spurs to get into the C.L. is to get there through the Prem....but either way I wouldn't bet the proverbial farm on it!

I think if we were to forget the EL ever excited we could make top tbh last season and the season before I think the EL killed our top 4 finish. Liverpool played very few games last season if they were in the Europa last season injuries, less prep time, travel, tiredness would have made there season bloody tough

I agree we should go all out to win this competition but take issue with a couple of the writer's points (different to yours, @JoeT).

Firstly, we don't really have any "key players" who the fans would be incensed about if we rested them for a "top-flight" PL fixture, as we did when Bale and Modric played for us. Everyone is droppable and we have the squad depth to compensate.

Secondly, the writer appears to have got his sums wrong. He says City, Chelsea, Arsenal and United are the top teams then goes on to say Liverpool are unlikely not to finish in the top four. But whatever, five into four doesn't go, and less so six into four, which is us. His point about going all out for the EL stands.

He doesn't say United will finish top 4 he says they will improve under Van Gaal.

Every year it's been "we should go all out on the Europa because it's our best chance of a trophy". Yet we don't win it. Now it's the same, save with CL substituted for trophy. Yet, statistically the chances of winning the competition are worse than getting in the top four. At least via the league you can get away with dropping points. Once you're beyond the group stage in the EL you've got no such luxury.

What's more, Poch is already focusing on it by playing an almost entirely rotated first team side for the EL. There is no reason to not give both competitions a serious effort.

So, in short, the journo is talking bollocks.

Yeah. Let's go all out to win it and finish 11th.
And most likely lose in the quarter final.
Again.

And what if we did go and win it and finish 11th?
We'd just be a mid table team in the champions league for 1 season. What do we do the next year? We won't have the Europa league to get us back in and we sure as shit won't win the bloody champions league.

Stupid article and stupid mentality.

Also
.It would take a Juande Ramos-like run of form — two points from the first eight games saw the Spaniard lose his job in 2008 — to tempt Levy to abandon Pochettino.

We're on our worst start since then. We've now taken 2 points from our last 5 league games and drawn both Europa games. In fact, we've only won one of our last seven games and that was against championship opponents.

We're still above Everton and Liverpool. And on the same points as Utd who haven't played anyone of note. We've had to play 2 of last seasons top 4 in our opening 6 games.

Imagine where we'll be when we start playing well. ;)
