Jimmy Greaves! Eek

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A29619147

Through what sounds like a complex series of mathematical equations and point scoring, some genius has worked out that our best player Jimmy Greaves.

No arguing now. It's been scientifically proved.

Perhaps the people who set this system should have included factors such as affinity with the fans and booze consumption.

He probably is. Hoddle, Mackay and Burgess are the only real alternatives and none of them had such an impact at international level as Greavsie.

In my time being a Yid, King gets my vote. Maybe Sheringham but he played for Spam so King it is.

Thats fair.
But for me there is only one player who could ever receive such a prestigious accolade.

Gather round, and I'll give you all a clue.

Atouba or not tou ba. That is the question...

Injury may have hampered Dave Mackay's chances. Not sure about the scientific approach. Man U's player is Duncan Edwards - great yes, but dead at 18 :-(

He probably is the greatest, but thats purely on how they have scored him on their points system. Midfielders dont score as highly as assists dont mean anything, only goals and clean sheets. Greavsie always will be a legend but in my eyes he'll rank just behind Ginola, and definately behind Hoddle. But thats probably only cos i'm a sucker for flair players.

I'm happy enough with Greavesie - was my hero a a kid - but Mackay sure did wonders for us - as did so many others of course

I wouldn't argue with that, he was the most natural goal scorer ever, top scorer in England for 6 years wasn't he.
Mind you if you look at the link it lists worlds best players thus

Pele 1st no problem with that but then
Ronaldo, romario, Figo and Zidane are 2 to 5
with Maradona only 6th
Cruyff at 21st
Bobby Charlton at 23
behind cafu ?? at 10
so obviously based on bollox.
