I don’t know why, but I’m quite excited about this transfer.

Actually its it’s probably because I’ve forgotten how it feels to have a new signing!

I was literally thinking the same.

I think it’s because we’ve had some pretty decent players come from buying promising youngsters in the past few years.

Aaron Lennon - joined us at 18
Gareth Bale - joined us at 18
Dele Alli - joined us at 18
Kyle Walker - joined us at 19
Christian Eriksen - joined us at 21
Younes Kaboul - joined us at 21

Obviously we’ve signed a fair few who haven’t made it, but that’s all part of the game.

I’d argue that the relative success of the above players more than offsets the financial hit we’ve taken on those who haven’t come good.

Always exciting to sign a player who might be the next big thing. Another reason I hope we get Sessegnon in, too, and would’ve liked us to sign Brooks last summer.

I watched a few Championship games last season - primarily to see Grealish - and remember seeing this kid for the first time and thinking he looked a cracking prospect. Didn't really see him much after that but just by that one viewing i would be very pleased to see him join us. I seem to recall us doing quite a few of these sort of deals in the past, driven by David Pleat, and if i remember correctly they were from a separate budget to the managers targets ?

Think this overplays just how good the lad is. He looks like a young and talented player but already capable of winning us points off the bench? Not so sure

Off the bench against tired legs, I would say absolutely. He’d be far more dangerous in tight spaces against the bus parkers than Sessegnon, because of how he plays.

Very different role mentally to starting at PL level.

As a starter that level may take him 2-3 years, but less need to be cautious with him than as a forward than we were with Foyth.

Come this time next year, he could be in our sights again depending on what Villa do during the season

Anyway, for another thread...

Based on sheer talent and physical gifts, there’s no reason why he can’t impact as quickly as Lennon did. The variable that’ll affect how quickly he steps up is his mentality, none of us has insight into that.
Lennon joined us when we were a mid-table side though, reaching a matchday squad now is a considerably higher standard.

If pre season training starts, and we have not got a single player in yet, then safe to say, things have not changed. Same old excuses and we are supposed to be contented that Clarke was never good anyway, that Eriksen and Toby are still around, it's not we never tried but the goal posts shifted....blah blah blah.

Then Ole/Zidane will get sacked mid season and Poch will join ManU/ Madrid.

Waaaaah

What if they sign a day after pre season starts?

I did state that the deal preferred was no ‘loan-back’. And certainly not until January. I hear from well placed ex-pros, who run established academies in Yorkshire, that he has everything to hit the ground running quicker than people think. His football intelligence is very impressive I am being told.

He stood out to me immediately when I saw him, seemed to have much more about him than players his age usually do, even the prospects.

Hence me caveating with ‘The variable that’ll affect how quickly he steps up is his mentality’.

What I will say is that I think the kid is a genius in the making and that will always make him more likely to impact the first team than if he was an ok 25 year old.

Just been talking to a Leeds season ticket holder in the park, says Clarke is a good prospect looked great then collapsed before a game and was mostly on the bench after that but was a match winner
He has heard a move to us is on the cards for £8.5 million + add ins
He is not happy, says worth closer to 15
Remarkable, the exact same info which was reported in the press yesterday.
