Agreed, they can’t be treated differently just because they’re a big club, that would set an awful precedent.

While they were going bananas paying huge salaries and transfer fees for the likes of Downing, Young, Reo Coker and several others, they should’ve been doing as we did and investing in infrastructure and growth plans, as well as young, hungry talent with a point to prove. Yes, the likes of Carrick, Berbatov, Modric, Bale outgrew us, but while with us they reached higher ceilings than the ready made proven players Villa bought who had hit their ceilings. And that’s before you consider the players we did get longevity from, Robinson, Dawson, Ekotto, Huddlestone, Lennon, Jeans, Defoe.

In 2005 Villa were in a similar state to us. Now they’re about two decades behind us.

Nail on the head. Take gambles and you have to be prepared to lose. Bet the fans weren't worried at the time when they were spending more than they can afford. As soon as it takes a turn it's all the boards fault. Careful what you wish for.

We've done things within a budget, not overextending ourselves, and been fiscally responsible. Thats why it's scandalous how the media touts our players as leaving to earn more elsewhere. The whole thing is spend spend spend, and when it goes tits up point the finger.

Feel sorry for them. Shocking when this happens to something you care so much about. Unless it’s Chelsea- then it’s just karma

The funny thing is I wasn't that bothered when it happened to Leeds, but would love it even more if it happened to Chelsea or Wet Spam, though tough for it to happen to Spam as their annual cost for the stadium is paid mainly by us tax payers

They have a lot of money due now to other clubs for previous transfers. They need cash now.

Yes and they can go to the bank and say they have this money coming in and the bank will release funds. The last payment they made was with their parachute payments which they haven't got yet.

If spammers went out of business we could sell the stadium.

Promising snippets from Trix and especially the Villa Talk ITK. Hopefully this one can get done soon now. £20-25m sounds good for all parties considering how desperate Villa are for cash. I know Villa fans will expect more but they are a Championship club currently and it should still edge out the comparable Maddison fee.

One note on the Villa Talk post: Villa fans really do think he's the bollocks don't they? Seems to be rated higher than Milner and Young. Do think this will be a cracking signing if we pull it off.

I wasn't too fussed about this but if it's circa £20m that seems a pretty good deal in this market. Hopefully first port of call will be a decent barbers.

Has one good season his value will double.
Probably treble, to be honest. He'd have gone for £40m in this market if they weren't in such financial trouble.

It's a shame for Villa and I hope we never reach that point, but from our perspective it's great business and is the type of deal that has Levy's name written all over it.

Only 23 players in the history of football have been sold for more than £40m.

No doubt most of those were in the last couple of years though.

My bad there were a few more, but due to exchange rates (pound to euro) they are listed out of order. Still i grealish wouldn't command a fee of £40m.

Ok I have been doing a bit of research on this, the more I read, the more I think this could be an inspired signing.

Bruce was talking about grealish and he was mentioning him with Clucas, Henderson and maguire. Basically saying they are nowhere near the standard of grealish. That he is twice the player.

Every one who has watched him seem to rate him as one of the best players in the championship.

Now this is where it gets interesting as his goal tally and assists are not too high, they are still rating him highly. The reason this is important is because most idiots only talk about goals and assists.

What has peaked my interest is what type of player he is, from what I have read he is more like Dembele than Eriksen.

"He picks the ball up from deep and drives the team forward dribbling, drawing fouls"

He might be seen as a replacement for Dembele , by that I mean he plays alongside a DM fighting for a place with Winks.

I sense an Alli type season.... I haven't been this optimistic about a signing since Gary hooper. :-(

Being that he's currently a championship player with some previous negative history and the "stats" are worse than maddisons I would expect the fee to be around the 20 mil to 25 mil mark. Going by the bale transfer from Southampton, if villa need quick cash rather than the usual staggered payments over contract length than I guess it could be for a lower fee.
Great business for us & IMO he offers an interesting skill set. If he gets his head down and is hungry to improve he could be an inspired signing and definately comes under the bracket of being clever in the market to maximise spending in other areas.

Re the transfer money owing, I seem to recall reading on villa talk (or maybe related media article) that they owe 11 mill for transfers on the 29th of this month.

I’ve been thinking exactly the same since Grealish was mentioned as a potential target. I see him as someone who will carry the ball through midfield like Dembele but has the ability and vision to play incisive and quick passes.

Exactly - quick 1:2’s get in behind the lines or get free kicks
