Where was that said?
Combination of Breezer saying Grealish can be a starter for England within 1 year, and Trix saying he expects Grealish to play a lot if he signs. We also had ITK from Herc, I think, that Grealish was a 1st choice player for Poch.

Hmmm ok. I don't see that as meaning he's coming in to be a key player personally.I see key players as Kane, Eriksen, Verts etc.

Yeah key player probably over sells his role, but I expect him to be a regular starter, and not simply a deputy to other AMs. But I also am expecting to see us move to 3 CMs, so we will see what happens.

Interesting, because the ITK says he is not coming to rotate, but rather to be a key player.

Personally, I don't think he would come here to be Eriksen's deputy.

Grealish is pretty much just a timing issue now as to when it best suits Villa. They are having to do a lot of twisting and turning financially and this is a huge amount of money as far as their situation is concerned, so they need to time it so as to best utilise it. I'm also told he is not coming in to be back up to anyone, and will at least be rotating in the first team.

It’s like a Tennessee Williams play every window
Well its driving me to the bottle like Brick in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Just waiting for the 'click'.:).

I'm keeping the faith, both with this transfer and the next few weeks. Something must be happening with incomings that hasn't hit the press.

This thread is really going to shit.

Are you really surprised as to why?

We were led to believe we'd finally be signing top top quality players this summer. Moving into a brand new stadium and all that, we'd be making a statement to our rivals.

Yet now you expect us all to be delighted we are signing Grealish and for some reason can't accept people moaning about it. No-one could have given a shit about Grealish in April. There probably wasn't a single poster on here that genuinely wanted him. On top of all this it is taking an absolute age to sign the player. Literally dragging on for months. As a fan I'm sure we are entitled to feel very aggrieved the way this window is panning out.

Of course it could all turn around and Grealish turns into a little footnote this summer, but as it stands right now there are no genuine links or movement with any quality names.

No back up to Kane. No new WF. No Dembele replacement. No Toby replacement.

There is less than a month left of the window. Yet Chelsea have signed Jorginho. Liverpool are going at it hammer and tongs on buying proven CL quality players. It's a bit depressing and all too familiar.

Can't argue with this part here, you're probably right if you are speaking for the majority, I'm sure there are people who are quite excited about him as a footballer though, so not everyone is on the same hymn page as you.

As for the rest of your post/point, ad nauseum throughout so many threads...

I also get excited about every new player. I've seen the success we've had with Alli for example. I hope Grealish turns into Gascoigne MK II. However that doesn't change the fact that we were told we would be aiming much higher this window and yet again we are shopping around in the bargain basement.

We literally scraped finishing above Liverpool season just gone and this summer they have plugged every hole in their team with proven CL quality.

Van Dijk at CB.
CM with Keite and Fabinho.
GK Allison.
Potentially Fekir as Coutinho replacement.

Sure they may not all work but no fan can fault their ambition and no-one can question the calibre of player they are signing and as fans that is all we ask for

Signing players like Grealish may not work out either so where is the ambition from Spurs? Unfortunately we can question the calibre of Grealish. Someone that nobody but midtable clubs like Leicester and West Ham were interested in.

159 pages for a player most of us couldn’t give two shits about before it became obvious we wanted him.

What a wank window.

Great World Cup on the other hand . Window is not done yet maybe

We finished above the two you mention in the league so a need for them to catch up! Don't jump ship yet!

I guess we'll have to wait and see if Grealish is another Dele or not. It remains to be seen, but based off of what we have read/heard (itk) Poch sees something in Grealish (obviously up to the reader to use the pinch of salt or not)

I'm not as bothered about the drawn out nature of this transfer thus far. Mainly because I don't see how a AMC is a priority for us. Im not really sure why people are getting so pissed off by the delays. Really, we should be trying to get him for as little as possible. The only transfer we really need is a CM and the lack of publicised movement on that front is worrying me, especially when the only name doing he rounds is Gomes. Players like Martial and Grielsh are not priorities so any delays in getting them are not really worth the worry. Grealish after all is a youngster from championship, how much impact do people really expect him to make in a team trying to win the PL.

We did but that season is now history. Liverpool have have signed 4 CL proven players in their weakest areas. Does anyone really feel that confident we will finish above them again as it stands now? We only finished a point of so in front, that doesn't excuse us to stand still whilst they strengthen tremendously...not to mention they made the CL final and we had a clear run in for the league.

How Liverpool have gone about their window is fantastic, they mean business.... whilst ours on the other hand? Deary me.

This transfer is taking so long that Jack Grealish will have qualified for his testimonial by the time he signs :cautious:

Ugh. Why now, when the transfer window is still open and the season hasn’t started.

Ok, that aside, let’s take a look at your points.

Yep, we aren’t linked with many players. We’ve been burnt by our targets being leaked to the press before we’ve done the deal, so there’s obviously a huge amount of work been done to plug leaks. And it’s working. ITK is drying up on the club side, and we need to be mindful of the fact that anything hing that makes the press/Internet is part of someone’s agenda somewhere. We only know what people want us to know. We don’t categorically know we aren’t in for top players. Work goes on behind the scenes.

Grealish. Yep, we wouldn’t have been excited in a April about this kid, but signs are promising. No guarantees but if he develops his potential, he’ll be a great addition. I doubt he’s the only transfer being worked on.

Others. No back up to Kane. Nope, and we do need a good back up as Fernando and Vince haven’t cut the mustard so that’s a gap. A player to come in and be the cover for the Golden Boot winning England centre forward and captain. But we do need to sell Lorentz and Janssen too. Replacements for Toby & Moose? We’ve not sold them yet, so ass things stand right now, there nothing to replace.

Chelsea have done a Willian to City and nicked a player they don’t really need (actually neither of them need) and will be trying to fend off interest in Courtois and Hazard cubtil the window shuts (and possibly after too).

Liverpool bought 1 player last season for now, and have signed another in a similar position. With Can leaving, they are basically plugging gaps. Oh and remember they sold their best player to Barca. They need a goalie so desperately, they are paying over the odds for one they put 7 past, just so the 2 (internationals) they already have don’t have to start. Oh and they have Shaqiri who at a guess will cover Ox who probably won’t play for the whole season. So, plugging gaps, nothing more.

Oh and just to reiterate, the transfer window is still open. We aren’t finished, but yeah, if Grealish is the only signing we make, we will have to comfort ourselves with the outstanding players we already have. World Cup winning Captain, 9 representatives in the Semi Finals, team ethos and getting one year older, wiser and better as they move towards their peak, not away like others who may be more “over the hill”.

Ugh. It’s not worth pissing and moaning across every fucking thread, cause it turns this great site to shit.

Having a youthful, successful team which is not changed to much leads to consistency and increased understanding between players. We signed Poch and Kane to long term contracts. We might have targets or not. We have literally World Class players as most of our team was in the latter stages of the WC. Chill.

Only Spurs can make signing someone like Grealish such a drawn out saga that by the time we sign him fans will have forgotten how ambivalent they originally were about it and will now herald him as the second coming. It's what happens when he appears to be the only signing of the window so far. Very clever by Levy. You just have to hand it to him.

Ffs enough with the Liverpool this Liverpool that.
What expectations come with all this cash they are spending ?
Pressure is massively on them from game 1 they have to win or come close to the title and I mean really close something they have done once in a freak season for them in over a decade or it's going to be curtains for klipp.
They are not owned by a play thing billionaire results will be expected on that outlay.

All their new players have to adjust to English football and all that comes with moving to a new country climate language with absolutely no guarantee of success.

So much panic. So much anger and frustration.

The club aren't stupid. They know we need reinforcements, the manager knows, we all know. People getting frustrated over 'drawn out' deals or 'sagas' clearly haven't learned the lessons of countless transfer windows previous - is Damaio going to play this year, do you think?

I too am anxious. Liverpool look very strong and flashing the cash in a big way. But they need to. They're spending money on positions is which they're weak. However, the window has a way to go and while we're currently in the chasing pack, perspective is the key ingredient to measuring the success of this window. They clearly had their priorities and secured the talisman and the manager, and what else goes on beyond closed doors is anyone's guess.

I also remember very similar discussions when people were panicking because we 'didn't have a defensive midfielder' and then Eric Dier happened. It's possible that Pochettino sees the answers from within. Maybe they're not panicking about Toby because Juan Foyth is going to knock your socks off. Unlikely, i'll grant you, but I think the manager has earned our trust.

So be frustrated and whatever else, but maybe also go outside and breathe.
