Tottenham to bid for Jack Grealish as Mauricio Pochettino identifies Aston Villa star as prime summer target

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...realish-mauricio-pochettino-identifies-aston/

Levy will believe he can get Grealish for as little as £15m, despite Villa’s attempts to stress they will not sell their prized asset on the cheap. That could make negotiations strained, but Levy will know that Villa are not in a strong position to stick to their guns having only just staved off the immediate threat of administration by settling their bill with HMRC.
That's a much more realistic price point, although maybe a bit low. Villa are completely desperate and an immediate injection of 15-18m paid in one go could make all the difference for them. Tack on ~7m in difficult to achieve performance related bonuses (full England international, PL winner, PFA team of the year, etc.) and I think we could have a deal.

His vision is quite good with those little trough passes but I think he runs too much with the ball. I guess that can be managed but his shooting is not good at all and I believe that to be important for an AM.

“Prime summer target”

Now that would be worrying
Tell me about it. I wish he'd said "first summer target". Prime makes it sound like we're going to pack it up and call it a day after signing him.

I'm on board with Grealish as a signing now, as long as the money is realistic. The sock thing will take some getting used to - it's a superstition thing apparently so it's probably not going to change.

Interesting as I wouldn't have assumed this. Caley knows his stats (even if he is not always popular for applying them)

Probably been posted before and apologies if so. Two things to take from the highlight video

1. He's always looking up, even with the ball at his feet he is looking for the next move. He may not be the brightest lad in the world but he has football intelligence I noticed that from watching him playing for Villa at 18/19yo in the Prem it is something he's always had and while some will learn that from coaching or playing for a decade, to have it so young is a massive +

2. He has the ability to turn a defender, this is something we've missed massively the last few seasons, especially against the packed defences that most will put up against us at home. Dembele does it but too far back and when he does he isn't looking up (see point 1) which as much as I rate Dembele he can and does stifle the attack sometimes. Turning the defender and breaking the line is so important in the modern game, it draws players from their set position and can also free up space from other marked attackers.

We know Pochettino wanted Barkley who has similar attributes and I'm pretty sure I said similar in his thread but I can see Jack getting plenty of minutes against the lesser teams of the Prem especially at home, in which only one DM is needed. We've been woefully short of creation when Dier and Wanyama have played together and even sometimes with Dembele and Dier/Wanyama. Being able to play 2 AM's and a DM with Eriksen and Jack will hopefully turn those frustrating draws against lesser opposition (Swansea & Burnley @ Wembley spring to mind) into 3 points.

That's how I see it anyway

Call me crazy...but anyone else see some Modric resemblances? Movement, keeps teams ticking and can link play really well.

Don't have an issue with his stats but some of the pieces he's contributed to the sbnation site are hand-wringing rubbish.

Not a bad shout, I see more of a Gazza in him but maybe a bit less stocky. Probably showing my age though

I don't think he's as explosive as Gazza maybe or silky. But I think he can really pass and ties Mid and Att so well...but I do see what you're saying.

Maybe we are going to play Grealish as a CM in a 3CM or even in a 4231 with a Dier/Wanyama? Not quite sure about his defensive abilities, but seems to me he has the ability to play at that place. Do not want to see eriksen frequently dropping back to get the ball

If 15m price is true then everyone should be happy with the signing except for Aston Villa's owner.

It's knowing when to run with it and when not to. We want him to break the lines and he does this quite well. No pass on? Run with it try commit a player or two. I wouldn't discourage him from doing this, mostly work with him to do it in the right moments.

It's one aspect of our game we have been pretty poor at. Dembele can glide past players but he doesn't do it at an electric pace, therefore the opposition are able to get back into position quickly. The great thing about Grealish is he can shift the ball quickly running with it and passing wise, so in time I expect him to add a real key component that we've been missing.

Dier/Wanyama

Dele/Winks Erriken/Grealish

Son/Moura Kane/striker Martial/Lamela

Think that would be a really impressive and young front line
