Yeah, in a thread debating whether signing Grealish would be a good idea, a poster listed two possible negatives. You quoted him and added a few more negatives. One would assume in a thread of this kind that these "negatives" would be with regard to whether Grealish would be a good signing.

However, you yourself stated that the "Irish thing" was unrelated to whether he would be a good signing for Spurs.

So what relevance does the "Irish thing" have to this thread, bearing in mind we can assume that the original poster was listing possible negatives relating to the player's suitability for Spurs?

Please answer, and without the name-calling this time.

My Grealish opinion is I don’t have one.

I watched very little of Villa last season and have read little about him.

I came into the thread as he is a potential target.

I didn’t know about the Irish thing before so was interesting to learn.

I pulled a poster up on saying the only reason people can be against the signing is he is English and plays in the Championship.

My post was relevant to the discussion, I don’t owe anymore than that.

Then here's another post "relevant to the discussion":

I've heard a lot of people saying they don't like the fact that he wears his socks halfway down his shins.

"I'm helping."

He is one of the most talented current English footballers about. Just give Villa a fair amount say £ 25 mill with add ons (+ loans) and get the Job done.

Was it ever confirmed he was at the training ground?

Is this classed as imminent or likely to drag out?

It is a good post from Trix as there is a significant minority on this board who don't know or care how complex things are in reality.
But it was MP himself who said he wanted transfers done early this summer, and he surely knows a little about the process. And the ITKs have spoke of a large war chest being available.

So if fans get frustrated in August about the lack of activity this summer, then the club has no-one but itself to blame. They need to listen to Trix - he knows his stuff!

Personally I'd like to see more players coming up through the academy - we spent a lot of money on that - and last season was particularly disappointing. But Grealish is young, English sort of, and should be cheap, plus we'd be helping a traditional club not so different to ours, avoid going belly up.

Who can Grealish be compared with in style of play?.

Gascoigne, Modric type player. A linker of midfield and striker, good passer who can also dribble and break a line. He's certainly no Gazza or Modric yet but that sort of player. Maybe Wilshere in the modern game (who doesn't fall down as much)

Can't put a name on it but someone Argentinian in his style. A little bit of Lamela maybe.
he's nippier than lamela, I'd say he reminds me of a cross between Wilshere and Hazard, not in ability but the way he carries the ball. he's the most fouled player in the Championship per minute on the pitch cause they can't get the ball off him.

Won't be popular, but Jack Wilshere is a good comparison...
That is who I think of when I’ve seen him. And, our biases aside, a player of of that ilk who could stay healthy more than Jack would be a great addition to the extent he can stitch together the defensive half with our playmakers up front. I never saw Gazza play so I can’t make that comparison myself and I don’t see the same ball skills as Modric. He does seem to like to attack with his dribbling and mazy runs through the midfield and finish with a searching pass to a dangerous position. If he can be effective doing that at the next level he would be a great addition.

A. Gold has a good blurb about him yesterday....didn’t know that Grealish was good friends with Dele.

Let's hope this Jack is not like that Jack.

I think very very few are under the illusion that transfers are easy and coming from a place where we think one snaps ones fingers and Messi appears at White Hart Lane. We all know Trix is correct about the facts. But at least I for one don't think that's the core of the matter, and judging by the last couple of weeks on this forum, others agree with me.

I'm saying that let's not waste time, money, and energy on C, D, or E, type choices. If we can't get A or B targets, then don't keep going down the pecking order. C, D and E type targets, we've already got players or combination of players in the squad that would work out as well, there is no need to by those type of players. Let's stick to A and B style targets, and bring one, maybe two of them in, then close the window. That's how we'll move this club forward from here.

I appreciate that the total effect of the transfer strategy, consisting of good, bad and right out ugly players, has lead us to becoming a consistent top 4/CL club. Well done. It's amazing. It's the accomplishment of this century. But at some point, the old strategy won't propel us further. We must refine it, and change it along with the fact that we have changed.

Aiming at becoming a top 4 club requires something different than the requirements after the club has become a top 4 club. Now is a great time to refine the strategy that we have been using over the last years, because our aims now are different than 2, 3, 4 years ago.

Nobody is saying it is easy. But keep buying players that would fit a club trying to break into the top 4, and that's the level you will be stuck at. I for am saying N'ough is N'ough.
