Is he available on the cheap? £40m is the quoted price on the media side.

AV owner just got a £50m loan to tie the club over while he sorts out his problems.

Imo anything over £20m for him shouldn’t be classed as cheap.

Well we'll have to see. If it's the price you have an issue with, maybe wait until we know what the price is.

Can't shake the feeling we are just signing Grealish because he's home grown, cheap and will increase in value. You have to forgive people for getting annoyed when one year we are linked with Isco (and apparently we were close), and the next we sign Nkoudou who is not good enough for Burnley. It's been that way forever, so until there's solid evidence of that changing, I think people are right to feel a bit disappointed.

Here's hoping.

Yes good points, and ones I'm mostly aware of. I do understand the logic you're outlining, I just think is it not possible to deviate a touch from our MO (which has served us well to date) to get a fundamental target in earlier than leaving it to the last knockings of the window? With the risk of not securing preferred target...

Levy is clearly a very intelligent and shrewd business man, I just feel is paying a premium early in the window to secure an absolutely top priority (which CM is imo) not preferable to playing the poker game as the window wears on.

I know I'm not privy to the intricacies behind the scenes but it's not like we havn't got the appeal now to be a bit more aggressive with a fundamental area that needs addressed.

Then again, maybe CM isn't viewed a priority.

Enjoyed your response though Trix, insightful as always.

The post I made wasn't in any way to defend the club, Levy or our transfer policy. It was more a generic post on why most deals are done late(for most clubs) and basically from an agents stand point, because that's where most of my info comes from. Fact is there is more value at the back end of the window and a club like us needs to use that in order to get higher value targets.

Things have changed though as you can see by Kane's new deal. There is now money to spend on wages and we are looking at a better quality of player, with a lot less mid priced gambles. It's just far more likely that the timing of the incomings will be similar to how we have done nosiness in the past for the reasons I have stated.

That of course doesn't mean we won't have one in(confident), and at a push two(less confident) before that.

We don't know how much "cheap" is. And people, not including me because I haven't seen him enough, think Maddison is better. Which he statistically is.

Doesn't that depend which statistics you are talking about? The game has so many factors contributing to games as well as who finds the net.

I bet that loan will be carrying some hefty vigorish on it, especially as Villa missed out on the holy grail of Sky TV monies - the owner will need to get his money over from China ASAP.

Nothing I have heard this summer screams ambition after Poch signed. There has been a sharp downturn in the mood of the ITK since he signed and its been back to reality of every summer since even before Poch came. This leads me to believe we do not have a shot at keeping him after this year.

What on earth is your reality? When you started following us, for whatever reason you chose... Why did you? And where were we? The reality of every summer? You pillock.

I imagine you've been a fan for a good long while... And you've seen us what? Improve every year? I'm glad you don't go to games regularly with your attitude. Knob.

His stats per 90 minutes is what I meant. And the fact he (Grealish) only played half a season should work against him
Not if it’s because he’s injured. By that reasoning, Dembele is one of the worst players in the league.

I don't think you understood my point.
It depends on what the injury is though doesn't it, and whether the player has previous. Some are far more likely to reoccur than others, and a player with a history of injuries far more of a risk than one who has just had one and come back well from it.

Stats don’t tell you much...especially in football. So much is dependent on your role, your teammates, the level of opposition, your minutes, the philosophy of the manager. Gerard has made team of the year with worse stats than Dele this year but Dele “had a tough year.”... my point is aimed at anyone who relies too much on stats and not you specifically.

Nothing to do with an injury. Even if they both had the same stats per 90, a player doing it over a full season is a safer gamble than someone who played much fewer minutes. It can be dangerous to judge a player on half a season. It's too short a sample size. You don't know if it's true reflection on their ability. I listed a few players in the thread in Spurs Chat, and I'm sure there's hundreds more players, who were great for a few months in the Premier League then quickly turned to nobodies.

Grealish had a very good half to the season this year. He was average at best the previous year with similar minutes and wasn't very good in the Premier League, albeit it he was young and in a bad team.

Some comments baffle me (no, it doesn't take much...)

Why would anyone be underwhelmed by Grealish coming in because he's from the division below and unproven at this level, and yet they'd prefer Maddison from Norwich?

Having said that, I'd prefer to see him play without his hat on.

.

I don't get it either, the championship is one of the toughest most competitive in Europe, it's probably on par with the Dutch and French 1st divisions (bar a cpuple.of teams)

Couldn’t a 20 million punt be more compared to Dele at 5 than to blowing 30 on Sissoko? Don’t see the point of arguing about it until the whole picture is painted. Could end up with a De Ligt, Martial, CM and Grealish where it makes some sense.

Obviously no one wants Grealish as a stand alone. But it’s June 9.
