I'm sure you didn't mean it to be, but that's very harsh. The boy was injured for much of the last season, it's not as if he could have changed the situation, as much as he's have liked to. When he did play (21 times apparently), he was Villa's best man on the pitch. They looked like a much more positive outfit when he was in the side.

.
If you see my reply to Trix, it's not about the injury. It was about judging someone who was good in half a season worth of games versus someone who was better for a full season.

Possibly what we wanted barkley for.

I don't watch that many non spurs games these days. But if there is a young xabi alonso floating about i'd take him in a heartbeat. Not really an eriksen replacement but would control the game. Modric would be great for a season or two.

... And could grealish perform/grow into that role?

I'm sure that there isn't too much between Maddison and Grealish and they could both benefit us, for what it's worth we've probably taken into account the fact that Grealish has PL experience and didn't look out of his depth.

Secondly, he seems to be able to play deeper. I'm not sure if Maddison can?
Many have said we are signing an Eriksen back-up, I don't see it that way, I think there's a good chance we will see them both linking up together and we'll be much more dangerous against the bus parkers.

1) I didn't know. Doesn't make his season any less impressive.
2) He didn't really. Villa were 5th when he made his first start and finished a distant 4th. They didn't go from a mid table team to just missing out on automatic promotion. Maddison did more in a much worse side, statistically anyway.
3) I don't know of his comment, but I don't really care what someone said about us when they were young and I definitely don't care if they turned us down before.

Again, I'm not advocating us signing him. I'm just giving an argument why some might prefer him over Grealish. Back in January most on here wanted him, and I bet if you brought up Grealish's name as an alternative back then most would have chosen Maddison. But now the situation's have flipped because we're after Grealish instead.

when Grealish came back their form definitely improved

I watched a few Norwich games, and can see the lad has something about him, but I also think Grealish has something more with his turn of pace and trickery. plus then they wouldn't of considered Grealish as he wasn't playing

Improved, yes. But carried them was a bit of an exaggeration.

Look, I'm on the fence with Grealish until I see the price. I like to play Devil's Advocate at times so that might be why I'm coming across a bit negative on him. He has talent but we haven't seen it consistently from him until this season, and that wasn't over a lot of games, which worries me.

I just hate the notion (this isn't aimed at you) that because Poch wants him we should just accept it. That kills any kind of conversation about the player and you might as well shut down half the site. I don't want this place to turn into RAWK where negativity isn't allowed.

Really can't get my head around why we're so heavily linked with this kid, every time I've seen him play he's looked bang average. No better than any other championship player, not as good as Pritchard.

Yes good points, and ones I'm mostly aware of. I do understand the logic you're outlining, I just think is it not possible to deviate a touch from our MO (which has served us well to date) to get a fundamental target in earlier than leaving it to the last knockings of the window? With the risk of not securing preferred target...

Levy is clearly a very intelligent and shrewd business man, I just feel is paying a premium early in the window to secure an absolutely top priority (which CM is imo) not preferable to playing the poker game as the window wears on.

I know I'm not privy to the intricacies behind the scenes but it's not like we havn't got the appeal now to be a bit more aggressive with a fundamental area that needs addressed.

Then again, maybe CM isn't viewed a priority.

Enjoyed your response though Trix, insightful as always.
Judging by the videos of Grealish in this thread, it wouldn't surprise me if we intend to play him in CM alongside Dier or Wanyama. He certainly seems to like to impose himself on games, passes the ball forward quickly from deep positions and has some of the ball carrying ability of Dembélé.

Offer £15m to Villa and Onomah on loan again. Take it or leave it.

He isn’t worth more than that. Winks is a better player.

On what basis can we actually do a meaningful comparison between them?

Winks is a young player who’s had the luxury of a world class manager, world class team mates, world class facilities and the breathing space to bed into the first team gradually.

Grealish is a young player who’s had unstable management, douchebag team mates, a club that’s going backwards and had to step up to try and get his team out of a shit fight with the support of sub-par footballers.

Comparing Winks and Grealish isn’t comparing apples with apples. It’s comparing apples with net curtains.

I believe Pochettino will make Grealish exceptional. I really hope he gets the chance because I think he will surprise people with how good he is. He likes to move with the ball at his feet at speed, I think this is an area where our squad is a bit lacking.

I do feel a bit sorry for Edwards in the sense that Grealish has at times been a wally also and Pochettino is about to put his trust in him but cast Edwards aside. But that’s life I suppose. Grealish seems to have really matured between 20-22, I’m sure Edwards will do the same just not with us it would seem.

It would be great to see them both together one day.

May be all you can get out of him as he may serve up to 5 years for perjury o_O

(not that I think he'll have to serve it)

I think you'll find we're about 3/4 of the way there. Only time you can question the club is when we inevitably fuck up the transfer window. Then you can question it and be negative for conservatively 3 hours.

He’s played left wing, no 10 and the 8 role so fulfill quite a few roles. Can see this guy becoming a poch and fan favorite

Douchebag team mates?
