We're also likely to add at least 4 non HG slots to the CL roster with the exits of Sissoko, Llorente, Alderweireld and Dembele. Not to mention de Ligt wouldn't count against that requirement should we eventually bring him in this summer.
de Ligt wouldnt be classed as U21 for CL purposes until he’s been at the club for 2 years. He would therefore take up a CL place if signed - unless the rules have changed!

Hercules has just posted on Grealish in the ITK thread.

"If! Fee agreed for Grealish tomorrow? Will read ‘Undisclosed’."

I'm coming around to this transfer now, perhaps because it seems inevitable. If we can get him for a good price, say £15-20m, then I say let's do it. If Poch wants him, and he must do, then that's good enough for me.

He really reminds me of Lallana in his style of play. If Poch can develop him to reach the same level then he’ll definitely be a great squad player

We’ve always shopped much better from lower leagues than from overseas. Robinson (okay only just relegated), Dawson, Rose, Walker, Huddlestone, Carrick, Lennon, Bale, Defoe, Dele, all unmitigated successes to varying degrees. This signing is in that vein: young, British, full of potential, from a traditionally great academy at a formerly huge club which is currently on its knees, bargain price (by today’s insane standards).

It’s not that we don’t have some great signings from abroad, many of our best players past and present clearly have been, but there’s always more risk when you have the unknown of ‘how will that player adapt to British football, British culture, needing to get a plane to see his family, etc.

Having watched a fair bit of the championship last year, this would be quite an exciting addition. He can see a good forward pass, isn’t afraid to have a go at goal and as has been said, is very good at retaining the ball at speed. He also has the tenacity that Poch likes!

I haven't really seen the guy play much but I get the impression he is a lallana type player. Is that a fair comparison?

Not sure why people keep saying this. As far as I'm aware he's an attacking midfielder, a number 10.

My (totally uneducated guess) is that Poch doesn't see him like that. I could be totally wrong, but I think he's most suited to playing CM in a midfield 3 - that's purely a guess, but I think his best work will be done deeper than how we'd envisage our 10s playing

Watch how he plays. He’s more effective behind an attacking unit.

Edit: I just watched @Lilbaz post from the previous post highlights how he’s played this season. Eg. As either a central midfielder or central attacking midfielder.

Poch will want to use him to carry the ball forward from deeper I suspect. From what I’ve seen of him that could suit him. Although obviously doing that in the championship is different that the premier league.

Well maybe, only Poch knows what he has in store for him. I see him as a number 10 operating behind Kane, sometimes dropping to pick up the ball and drive forward, but certainly not part of the double pivot in our 4-2-3-1.
