Aston Villa under pressure to raise up to £50m in player sales

Aston Villa are under pressure to raise up to £50 million in player sales over the next two transfer windows, it can be revealed.

Villa manager Steve Bruce is facing the prospect of key stars including Jack Grealish, James Chester and Jonathan Kodjia being sold as the Championship club battle a financial crisis.

Grealish is a target for Tottenham Hotspur, as revealed by Telegraph Sport on June 7, and Mauricio Pochettino is set to test Villa’s resolve with an opening offer of £15m.

Chelsea and West Ham are also interested in the former England under-21 international, and it seems inevitable the homegrown attacker will be sold after Villa’s failure to beat Fulham in last month’s play-off final.

Despite Grealish’s reputation and undoubted ability, it is thought unlikely that Villa will get anywhere near their £40m valuation.

I struggle to take an article seriously when they list the manager/coach in relationship with bids made but I digress... I do hate to see a club end up in their predicament even though I hope their loss is our gain.

Pretty sure John Percy is one of the highest regarded journos in the UK when it comes to his coverage of the midlands clubs.

Do agree on that point however.

Majority of which were sub appearances and losses. 1600mins in total. Id say thats unproven.
I'd say you'd struggle to find one professional manager who'd agree that Grealish hasn't proved he can play at PL level.

Unless you're only on with a few minutes to go, then sub appearances do have substantial validity, especially for a very young player. Is Onomah proven at Championship level? His appearance record last season can't be vastly superior to Grealish's in PL.

Is it possible that Daniel Levy could do a 'free' bit of consultancy work to help Villa out of the position they are in as part of the Grealish deal

In terms of getting some advice, Levy is basically gold standard in terms of running a football club not to mention having the qualifications to back it up, a long term relationship with Villa could be a great thing for both clubs.

They need help, we want their star player, we have loan options they could use.

Just a bit of posturing going on that's all. As everyone knows though the clock is ticking as far as the tax man is concerned.
Though I saw that the Football League was trying to find a way to help them out. Short term loan?
