My entire point is about where we are as a club, where this squad is and where I believe our ambitions should be. God forbid I would hope we up our level as we look to cement ourselves as an elite club in European football. This squad is really damn good, we don't need more depth, we need proven talent to take us to the next level.

If we disagree on where the club should be aiming then thats fine.

I agree with you almost completely, especially the idea that CM is our most urgent position and, if possible, we should try to sign proven quality there. Which players though are available that we could sign that really fit our needs in that position? That is maybe the issue. Any "proven quality" central midfielders you can find have numerous suitors, almost certainly clubs with more money than us, so it's going to be very difficult. Even Man United, who really needed a CM - the best player they were able to sign in that position was Fred, who I wouldn't classify as "proven quality" given that he's coming from the Ukrainian league.

Another point I would make is that maybe we should stick to the formula that has worked for us over time. Like you said, we have a really good squad, but we put that together not by using the Man City method of signing the most sought after players for big bucks, but by signing players who we scouted and felt had great potential, or by bringing players through the youth team. Almost all our best players were signed that way, so, although it's frustrating because we feel like we're not addressing our serious needs, maybe we should trust the system that's been working - "proven quality", so to speak.

JG is a quality player. He is the best player at AVFC but he is nowhere near his potential. Just doing enough to be the star man. When he moves to a bigger club he has the ability to lift his game to match. He has the ability and drive to succeed and the ego to want to be the star player. However London does worry me and he needs a strong manager to keep him grounded. But he has all the ability and confidence to succeed for whoever he plays for even at the top level. He is desperate to play for the national team.

Sounds promising.

Let’s hope he doesn’t do the same as Bentley - as all of the above could have applied to him and more.

The professionalism between Redknapp and Pochettino is staggering. Glad we've got a firm hand at the tiller these days.

You can’t blame Rednap for Bentley, Rednap improved a lot of players and was a very good manager for us, if it was not for the Court case/ England job / greed it was not his football mangerail side that the issue.

Didn't really set the world on fire after us though did he. Having said that would have been better than Hodgson

that's because he never had anything near the quality he had in players after he left us, good manager, great man manager, but not a miracle worker

That's all true but I still expected a little more from his qpr side if I am honest

He was no doubt but there were characters that certainly could have done with a bit more discipline. Suppose each manager builds a side in his own way.

Well, you can - Harry had/has a huge personal gripe against drink driving (justified or otherwise), and this was quite clearly an insurmountable issue with his opinion of Bentley.

In a very long managerial career he achieved what ? One very lucky FA Cup win and helped relegated four different teams. Would have been five but he ran away from the QPR job just when they needed his ‘experience’ most. If he was so great why are his achievements so limited and his failures so numerous ? Why when he finally gets a job at a decent club did he fuck it up by not just his greed but because he lost interest in his job and stopped doing his job?
