I can see Villa sliding down through the leagues with their inability to recruit anything other than cheap loans.
As a 9 year old in 1970 I saw Aston Villa knocked out of the FA Cup in the first round for thevfirstbtime in their illustrious history. And it was illustrious then. Villa were still mega. Southend beat them 1-0 at Roots Hall. Villa had fallen to the old Division 3 for the first-time in their history. I feel sorry for their supporters. They deserve better. I feel pleased for Wolves, another great name from the past who are coming back.

We aren't going to find a like-for-like replacement for Dembele. The person we bring in to play that position is going to be a distributor not a carrier.

The sceptics on here I believe will be eating their words in a years time. As said before in the football data and scouting circles Grealish is regarded as the most effective player outside of the Premeier League in the UK alongside Cairney. Surely the WC taught us one thing those players who have performed in lower leagues stand a good chance of progressing to international football for England. This signing excites me and if Grealish is not a full international within 18 months (barring injury) I will donate £250 to SC!

I agree that Grealish will probably be a regular in the England squad within a year if he joins us, but I don't believe that means he'll be a regular starter for us, unless of course he earns it.

I think he'll get a lot of minutes since he can be brought on in a number of positions and scenarios. Southgate is a manager who respects Spurs and Pochettino in particular, he seems to trust our players more than most, putting Spurs players on whenever a penalty shootout looked likely, for example. Rose and, to a lesser extent, Trippier weren't regular starters for us last season but got the nod because of their talent and particularly their ability to fit into his Poch-esque system. I'm sure the same will happen with Grealish, assuming he does well.

Can't remember the exact date, but think we're off to the US next week - hopefully it's all done and dusted before then so he can get a good amount of game time out there.

I rate him as an am, he goes past players really well but I’m not convinced he’s right to play in a double pivot

I dunno. All this talk of Grealish being an uninspiring signing. The, we should only pay X amount. Not forgetting the old favourite, he's only Championship quality and didn't even set that alight.

My Two cents if I may.

I think he will be a wonderful acquisition. He moves the ball quickly, has an eye for a pass and creates chances. The lad is a talent, and as some have already stated, with the right coaching could be exceptional.

I couldn't give a flying feck if he's come from the Championship. So did Trippier and all and sundry are calling him England's stand-out performer at the World Cup

Homegrown and the potential to be a true star. Feck yeah...I'm well pleased the club I support is all over this

Not every Carlos Kickaball costing £50+ million will be superior to a cheaper, well thought out option.

Can't wait to see him in a Spurs shirt.

This talk about "being on England in a year"—it seems like a strange barometer to be measuring Grealish by. Euro qualifiers don't start until March and England has one game scheduled before that vs. the US in November. It's not like he's going to have loads of opportunities in the next year.

I can't see him not starting for us but starting for England (Trippier started 30ish games last year for Spurs), but I'm only arguing the point here because I don't want us to over-hype a 22 year old.

i came to the opinion five pints in last night that Villa and Upper Championship are about the same level as the portugese league or lower liga/seria A.

So if you had a 22 yr old portugese, Spanish or Italian kid at 22 ripping up the portguese league (young player of the season) we would be squirting man-helmans all over the player.

think of him as Jaques Grealisho and suddenly he's a must buy fan fave
That Judas fucker declared for Portugal now?

I think the most of us is ok with signing Grealish as a rotation player but many of us are not happy if he is viewed as a Dembele replacement. A real fan favourit and miles ahead of Grealish when it comes to ability. The CM position is so extremely important, we need someone very very good there to be able to step up a notch.

I think many if us here see us changing shape next season leaning towards a 433. Its not about individials its more to do with combinations off skillsets that are within. I see us lining up in a 433 next season. 1 dm and 2 either side playing as dictators to a pacey and dynamic front 3.
I think most people who are not very keen will be changing their mind fairly soon into the season once they see what his skillset will bring to the COLLECTIVE rather than him as an individual v dembele.
Great options to have imo especially if we can add martial.

If he's Dembele's replacement, I riot.
If he’s Dembele’s replacement, im throwing myself off the Empire State Building, then dragging my body on a plane to Dubai and throwing my self off the Burj Khalifa and im only semi joking.

We needed a CM anyway without replacing Dembele. If we dont sign one and replace Dembele with an AM???????

You've missed out on the Nations League that begin in september, UEFA's new tournament that replace friendlies. There will be three more call up opportunities in 2018.

8 sep England - Spain
11 sep England - Switzerland

12 oct Croatia - England
15 oct Spain - England

15 nov friendly at home versus USA
18 nov England - Croatia

sissoko had 1396 minutes last season in the premier league and statistically was our 2nd worst player in the premier league. Really not sure the downside of giving these minutes to Grealish and he will probably get more if he proves himself.

Out of interest, who was worst? Lllorente?
