Tottenham set to push Jack Grealish transfer through as Mauricio Pochettino wants him on their US pre-season tour

Chairman Daniel Levy has been stalling over the midfielder in the hope of pushing down Aston Villa's £40m asking price

Spurs' stand-off with Aston Villa over Jack Grealish is close to ending, with Mauricio Pochettino wanting the attacking midfielder for the club’s US tour.

Grealish would provide competition for Dele Alli and is ready to quit his boyhood team for a return to the top-flight.

But Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has been stalling to try to drive down the price for the 22-year-old, with Villa in a financial crisis after failing to go up from the Championship last season.

Villa manager Steve Bruce has called Grealish’s sale “inevitable”, but time is running out for Pochettino to sign him in time for the America trip.

Spurs leave for Los Angeles on Sunday and have three games scheduled Stateside in the International Champions Cup, against Roma, Barcelona and AC Milan.

While Villa originally wanted £40million for Grealish, they may now settle for about half that amount.

Tottenham will offer a five-year deal which will see his £20,000-a-week salary rocket.

Grealish has come to terms with the necessity of leaving Villa Park since they missed out on promotion by losing 1-0 to Fulham in the Championship play-off final.

Leicester were keen on him but have since moved for Norwich's James Maddison instead, while fellow suitors West Ham landed Jack Wilshere.

That has left Spurs poised to get their man, after Liverpool declined to bid.

Grealish watched England’s World Cup with interest, knowing he could be in the same team as Spurs striker Harry Kane next season. He is understood to feel he could provide top service to Kane for both club and country.

Grealish has all the hallmarks of a Tottenham signing (in a good way)
We have had a lot of success with the model of buying top young English talent in the past

That is, quite possibly, the most stubborn and ridiculous blog post I've read in a while :ROFLMAO:

that blog said:
I have seen a thought floating around that reads something like this: It doesn’t matter that Xia refuses to sell, because Villa would have to sell Grealish to meet FFP anyway. In response to that:

  1. Why, at this point, are you defending Xia at all? He’s going to sell the club’s most prized asset of the last two decades for well below market value, solely because of a crisis of his making. Even if it truly doesn’t make a difference, what’s the point in making Xia’s self-centered decision not to sell seem less bad?
  2. It’s a fundamentally incorrect statement. Aston Villa do not need to sell Jack Grealish to meet FFP.
that blog said:
The thing about Grealish is that he is (or at least should be) a slam-dunk way to fulfill the FFP requirement. Sell him for £25 million or £30 million, a very fair price, and you’re good to go.

Alternatively, if Aston Villa sold James Chester, Albert Adomah, Jonathan Kodjia and Mile Jedinak (all players that have been surrounded with rumblings of interest at various points in time this summer) for competitive fees, I would estimate an FFP savings of around £25 million or £30 million. Again, good to go.

If Aston Villa are going to sell Grealish, FFP regulations would dictate that they can keep Chester, Adomah, Kodjia and Jedinak. If Aston Villa are going to sell the latter four, FFP regulations would dictate that they can keep Grealish.

Ok....so instead of selling one first team player (Grealish) to meet FFP, who we should also add appears to be the subject of an existing bid, he suggests selling 4 of them - and not only that, but he's someone suggesting that you could get £25m to £30m for them. I'm assuming he's putting in those offers himself, because no one else is, and somehow doing so with each buying club agreeing to do so in large installments, and without the 4x agent fees, 4x loyalty bonuses etc. etc.

And then, when the dust settles, they still can't afford to sign anyone to replace them and so have 4 first team players less. Which doesn't indicate "promotion push", but more "League 1 impending".

I'm sure some of these bloggers are just delusional 14 year olds with overused copies of Football Manager.

That's not all about financial reasons, it's to make space in the squad. Grealish being home grown doesn't have the same impact on squad numbers.
Yep - also I reckon 'Eriksen back-up' isn't really a squad position we have filled at the moment.

20000 per week for 5 years ...... levy is such an evil

It'd be £5.2m over the course of his contract...and that salary is what he's currently on at Villa, I'd say he be at least close to doubling that, which is another £10m+ outlay for the club along with the transfer fee.

Arguably with our current players and wages, I'd imagine we'd be offering somewhere around £30-40k a week basic with fuckloads of bonuses tacked on (appearances, goals, Caps, etc.)...although that could be well off dependent on what other clubs have been offering. Has anyone seen any ITK about actual contracts? I've seen terms being agreed mentioned for a while, anyone actually heard any numbers?

Given that non-HG is obviously an issue for us why did we renew Vorm and ever sign Gazzaniga, is there anyone at the club who thinks it is wise to take up 2 non-HG slots for backup GKs ?

Why did we renew Vorm? He's a good back up who already fits well in the squad. Why did we sign Gazzaniga? Poch knows him and rates him.

This whole Homegrown shite is because UEFA and the Premier League's rules are different.
