Conflicting ITK regarding Grealish, one hand he was Poch’s top choice for that position but on the other we had the chance to get deal done early at the right price but now it’s off due to Villa’s circumstances. If he was Poch’s top choice (that position) why are we not still pursuing it? Not a dig before anyone says it but more of a statement that ‘who the fuck knows what’s going on!’

I'm quite disappointed, not because I think he's incredible although I do think he has talent, but because is my head he was already in a Spurs shirt and I was happy with the idea. A nice shiny signing, young lad with potential, something a bit different and I could see it added to the squad... Now I believe we will find other people and do something this summer still, but it will be a bit of a shock no doubt. Don't get me wrong, we've had some good shocks... but I still have images of sending my Everton Fan mate that they were stupid to buy Sissoko just for us to go and pip them... I don't need any more of those surprises Daniel! I just don't! PLEASE!

The window of opportunity to get Grealish over the line at a decent price was a big one.

Why has the deal RIP-ed?

Price increase!

Seriously, people don't understand how much of this was done ages ago. It's almost the Willian situation in reverse.

Yeah I’m not disputing that but if he was Poch’s top choice then surely he’ll be pissed at Levy for not getting it done early. We continued to delay which I presume it was due to other targets, hopefully targets in CM/WF which are also Poch’s top picks.
Not nessecarily a question for you Trix but when during early negotiations with Villa did Levy have any idea about future owners or did it come straight out of the blue?

Does it matter?

Thing is the club are still making all the right noises, still confident, prime targets still being worked on blah blah blah. Problem is there is a week to go and the whole window rests on numerous games of who will blink first. I have criticised Pool for overpaying on all aspects of transfers this Summer and I stand by that. The problem we have is Levy is trying to do the exact opposite, wants everything in at 2015 prices and everything out at the current market rate. As I posted yesterday, it's not all doom and gloom just yet because we still have options we are working on(including CM ;) ) but the players we are talking about are not players from clubs that are desperate to sell, so trying to prize the last sheckle out of every deal, just won't work.

The most confusing bit is that "Villa have not yet received a bid for Grealish from Tottenham." ( Daily Mail)
It shows he is not a priority by any means 10 days before TW shuts.
But who the f*ck is?

Trix, whether you tell us what we want to hear or give us updates that pushes us to meltdowns, your contribution to this site (along with @Hercules and several others) is just unreal. The amount of things that i learn about the backoffice goings on in football, and naturally our own club, is just incredible. I am not sure many would be able to bring the same amount of insights and still stay calm and measured in the way you do - especially due to the reactions that transpire. So many thanks its appreciated more than you know. (y)

An "official bid" is often near the end of the process nowadays.

Yeah I posted an opinion on Levy needing to get with the times regarding prices, obviously just (un)educated guesswork on my part though.
Regarding the Villa takeover I just thought despite Levy trying to squeeze Villa he would’ve foreseen the increase in price if he knew it (takeover) was happening...we all saw it.
Fingers crossed for the CM!

Agree...Trix always posts with a level head & not emotionally charged! However I’m hoping he’ll be showing emotion at end of window...good vibes though...obviously ?

Ok, it's clear. We could buy him earlier for 20 ml and move to the next target if he was a priority but we didn't.
Now we have to pay OTT to get a player who is valued 35-40 ml but only because he's HG, right? Well, it's insane.

So you're saying Grealish is valued at the same price as Malcom? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Sounds as though it's time to remove Levy from the negotiation table.

The only way that happens is if he chooses to sell the club.

Now if you and million of your nearest and dearest all chip in £2000 then you might be able to do that, otherwise he isn't going anywhere and there is not a damn thing that you or anyone else can do about it.

Surely though and despite posturing Villa will have to adhere to some of the FFP rules. It means they will need money, either now or later. Rules are rules. If we have an offer out there, the player wants to come and we can bend a bit also then this can still work?

Thanks for the info Trix, but it does make you worry that if Levy is truly trying to buy below market value, but sell for a premium, then he's going to get burnt, and we'll end up with no movement either way. Surely this goes against any supposed promises he must've made to convince Poch to sign up.
There's a fine margin between playing is savvy and running a club sensibly, and then ultimately not quite making it to the next level of competition due to being so cautious. In the interim, do we then run the risk of losing some of our prized assets who want to be competing for success?? Is this truly off the table, or just Levy playing hardball going Villa cave in?

Regarding Grealish, I'm torn, I actually like the premise of buying young English talent, so we can continue to provide the core of the national team, but at the same time we mustn't stifle the players we have coming through our system. If he's seen as a CM, then is he truly better than Winks & Onomah, I've honestly not watched him enough to be certain.
