We're cloning winks?
Harry ‘Jango’ Winks should have read the small print in his last contract more carefully.

Does it matter?

Thing is the club are still making all the right noises, still confident, prime targets still being worked on blah blah blah. Problem is there is a week to go and the whole window rests on numerous games of who will blink first. I have criticised Pool for overpaying on all aspects of transfers this Summer and I stand by that. The problem we have is Levy is trying to do the exact opposite, wants everything in at 2015 prices and everything out at the current market rate. As I posted yesterday, it's not all doom and gloom just yet because we still have options we are working on(including CM ;) ) but the players we are talking about are not players from clubs that are desperate to sell, so trying to prize the last sheckle out of every deal, just won't work.

This is exactly what I thought is happening and why we find if so difficult to buy and sell. Levy wants above market prices for the players we sell, and below market prices on the players we buy...So end result is we find it difficult to do deals full stop.

On Grealish. I'm sure the club are spinning it how they want it to look. I just sincerely hope the reason we didn't pull the trigger was because he was a back up option and not because Levy was trying to haggle even cheaper and Villa then told him to get lost.

As you say...the problem is Levy.

Shame, he has an interesting and talented skill set that a could have benefited us. Can only hope the club know what they are doing & there is better lined up.

Sounds as though it's time to remove Levy from the negotiation table.
what...and run this club to wall... No Thanks... I'd rather have Levy all day long because he has the best interest of the clubs finances at heart.

If we can't meet the fees touted for x players so be it, we still have a strong enough squad to compete.

Thanks for the info. This is worrying. I don't want or expect Levy to start spending outside our means, but surely he needs to adapt his approach to the market as it stands, otherwise we'll be standing still.

The other thing is that the market gets worse every year. We should have been a bit more forward thinking the last couple of summers, Sanchez and Foyth aside. This summer looks like the perfect storm of things preventing us doing business: WC, transfer window ending early, hard to shift deadwood, Levy's 2015 approach.

I'm still fully expecting this to come back on. I'm sure the club are aware of what it will cost, and it'll remain an option to revisit until the window closes. Perhaps depends on what else we have on, and how the HG quota needs to be balanced among those signings. For example, if we're leaning toward Zaha, maybe we can source a foreign CM, but if we switch to Martial, then we need a HG midfielder, Grealish can be revisited very quickly.

Ultimately I'm sure neither of Zaha or Grealish are dead in the water. We know both are available, and we probably know exactly how much for, but perhaps want better value, but if that can't be done, and the club have to deliver for Poch, they have to bite the bullet and go back for the quoted fees, or risk failing Poch badly and face the backlash of that.

Funny that the club won’t pay market rate for players, and yet expect ordinary fans to pay above market rate for their ST.

They don't expect them to, they make the offer and we accept or decline, I'm not distraught about my season ticket price to be honest.

Im not suggesting removing him from his position. I well aware he is the main reason we are where we are.

However we are a different club to that of a few years back and we have to deal in a totally different transfer market.

Levy is still dining out on VDV that happened a decade ago.

ITK is also supporting this. I don't know the answer but we could be asking lots of questions come 9 days time.

i still think he will come, fudge on price when grealish makes it clear to villa he wants to move
our desperation, him only having 2 years left and them needing FFP irrespective of new investment will mean this will happen imo

Basically Levy wants to buy at wholesale and sell at retail while expecting everyone else to sell at wholesale and buy at retail.

The dickhead.

Woodburn, who had supposedly been their Grealish replacement, now going to Sheffield United instead.

Spurscommunity when we look like buying grealish:

Fucking Levy, only paying for unproven second rate players and forcing them on our manager who’s asked for the finished article.
Spurscommunity when grealish doesn’t happen:

Fucking Levy, not backing our manager by refusing to buy him the potentially top class answer to all our problems he’s asked for.

Sanchez happened last year.
The sixth most expensive defender of all time and a transfer that seemingly came out of nowhere. It's the most recent refutation of almost all of the shit opinions currently being espoused in this forum, so routinely gets ignored.

I think there's room for constructive criticism that falls between these two (deliberately overstated) extremes.

I agree, sadly finding constructive criticism in this place lately is like finding a need in a haystack. As for deliberately overstating, no I’d say that’s quite an accurate reflection of most people in here.
