Why embarrassing? He is trying to get us to overpay. Why would we? We’ll deal as we need to deal in the circumstances, not come along with the lube and our pants pulled down.

We paid 30 million for Sissoko two years ago and our pants have been down ever since.

If you're Villa, you wouldn't settle for anything less than 30 simply because of that fact. And because they know we can only register 24 out of 25 squad players due to HG.

You could argue they have financial fair play to think about. Their loud public noises also suggest they are trying to cover weaknesses in their negotiating position.

But who's more desperate? This has got deadline day written all over it. Who blinks first.

Yup. For better or worse, that's when it's happening.

My guess is we'll try for:
- an offload of peripheral players
- Grealish
- Martial/Toby swap
- possibly another long shot

My guess is we'll
- end up with Grealish, probably for more than we would have otherwise - somewhere in the 25 to 30 mark
- a loan for VJ, possibly for GKN as well
- never get there on Toby/Martial. We might sell Toby but Utd will stand firm on Martial and sell him to PSG

I think the others will fall through.

You can call it a tough market if you want but the above would represent a total fiasco, and I think would, absent something extraordinary (big moves in Jan, an unexpectedly good league performance) result in Poch leaving at the next offer of something big, probably to Utd

At present, this is a total c*ck up

Outside of blind faith, for us Non-ITKers, this is probably the most likely scenario going based on the information out there. Not far off the Sky article yesterday.

I’m relaxed on Grealish. If it happens it happens, if it doesn’t it doesn’t. The squad doesn’t really need him, but if Poch thinks he can turn him into a top level player then great.

It’s neither embarrassing nor pitiful that we haven’t agreed a price with Villa yet. It would be embarrassing and pitiful if he is our only signing this window.

Our window does not hinge on grealish. He’s either a bonus or a consolation. Let’s hope the former.

It's just embarrassing

Steve Bruce is playing the game - trying to talk the price up. He mentions the buying club will now need to pay a ‘premium’. Why? Because they’ve had a cash injection the asking price for their players goes up beyond Fair Market Value?

They have a player who reportedly wants out. That’s a couple of quid off in most people’s reckoning but Bruceonomics says otherwise.

Poch is also playing a game - making out that Tottenham can afford to walk away. It’s a sound negotiating tactic that keeps the other guy on his toes but it’s almost certainly not what he or DL is really thinking.

Deadline day Is close at hand with its healthy dose of realism.

It's embarrassing because in all honesty we can't even complete deals for players i don't even rate. We have had the whole window to complete this and the best rate we would of got is before they got taken over.

It's not embarrassing if we get him cheaper on deadline day.

I originally replied to you saying that its cause Poch wanted him. I'm saying if Poch really wanted him that bad we would have closed the deal by now as he isn't an expensive transfer.

the thing is Villa where in the shit, and most probably wanted 25-30m, when we bought Sissoko we bought him under 5 payments of 6m. Villa most prob wanted the lot up front to pay off debts.

I'm not sure if people understand this, but when you make transfers unless your City, Utd, or Chelsea (possibly Liverpool) we borrow it off the banks, it doesn't come out of Levy's back pocket (hopefully @wishkah can confirm this, or embarrass me:X3:)

He's ours. We see this all the time. Grealish has told Villa he wants to go which is why Villa are now going public on discussions with Spurs etc. All they now care about is getting as much as possible.

In case you haven’t looked around this transfer window, it’s a buyers market. We got the cash my son. We can walk away from the deal if we need to and we are not desperate by any means. Our season is not going to depend on the JG deal. Man up bro, that is why Levy manages a multi million pound operation and you and I dont. Buckle up for the ride. It will be interesting which ever way it goes.

Poch obviously not happy. Steve Bruce says we are nowhere near the asking price for Grealish, despite negotiating all summer. I think many Spurs fans are getting more annoyed as each hour slips by

We had ITK from JJ recently saying we were working on deals that weren't in the public domain.

Lets say we just cough up an extra £10m for Grealish, who's to say that by doing this it costs us the undisclosed player.

If this player turns out to be a worldy there will be another meltdown over the fact we signed Grealish instead.

Don't get me wrong I'm not jumping for joy about the way the window is going but none of us has the full picture so we are just going to have to hope that in a week's time we can sit back and be happy with the way it turned out.

Not making a single signing with 6 days to go (unsurprisingly) does seem to bother Poch and that's what matters
For sure, key being 6 days - once they pass then I'm sure we can all tee off (if we wish) to our hearts content. Until then I'm not going to feel the slightest bit stressed.

I agree with this, this is now preparing their fans for the inevitable and trying to illustrate they drove a hard bargain.
