Taking off my spurs tinted glasses, I can actually understand why they'd be stubborn and refuse to sell him at any price. Even if the new owners are not "football men" and don't understand FFP, there's no way Villa could replace Grealish for a player of similar quality. Keeping him massively increases their chances of promotion, the earnings from which would (I imagine) more than make up for any fines, while also endearing the fans to the new owners in the process.

Sucks for Jack in the short term but he's a fan and will no doubt knuckle down and fight for the team after the initial disappointment dies down.

He's a Villa fan but that didn't seem to stop him acting like a knob up until fairly recently. A lot is made of Villa being his boyhood club but you would of thought his attitude would have been better if he was that much of a Villa fan.

As his new found professionalism is fairly recent, there is just as much danger of him reverting back to his old ways due to the disappointment of not getting the move he seems to have set his heart on. "Disillusioned" is the term I think they use.

I thought Grealish would be great potentially for us working with better players around him...no disrespect to Villa. Right about now it really wouldn't bother me if we just announced they'll be no dealings this current window, kept everyone including Toby and Rose focus on Winks Onomah stepping up and allow Pochettinho to work with the squad.

If he don’t put in a transfer request, he has to endure 2 yrs in Villa which by then he will have less chance to play for national team and Europe. That’s a tough decision given he is is villa fan. So it’s really up to him now but with so little time, I call this off. Levy is just not the right person to do signings given the inflated prices for EPL clubs got to pay. Indecisive and playing chicken game is no longer viable.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

It's clearly been absolutely dead since the new owners rejected our £25million offer. It's over guys

Really interested to see how this plays out now - will Grealish drop in form after failing to get this move? Will Villa face the consequences of FFP? Will he sign a new contract? Because if he does, he's only going to price himself out of moving next summer when the owners decide he's now worth £60m...

When you are told “we will accept £25M” and then offer £25M and they say “sorry never mind,” you move on.

The thing is, had we done it weeks ago, we'd of brought him in and he would had some of his pre season here.

But Levy clearly wanted to wait to low ball them now, shaving some off the price tag.

Of course, that's the way he rolls, but this is the risk you take playing that game.

We were prepared to pay 25 million, a fair price, but wanted to apply the pressure with hours remaining hoping they'd take less.

New owners in, situation changes and that's that.

I'm not convinced Grealish was ever first choice, hence the delay to see if a preferred option was obtainable.

Id love to know who was considering everybody is adamant we cant fork out on a player of quality, hard to imagine we would find significantly better for even 15 mill more

We need more than one midfielder though, especially since we're trying to offload Dembele, so I don't get why we'd wait if we could have gotten him earlier.

Couldn't move out Sissoko either. As soon as we couldn't move these guys Levy went back in his shell.

If we're to believe that the £32 million 'release clause' is real, then Imo we should proceed. HG and English talent. Win-win for Levy

I don’t buy it. It’s almost unthinkable that a major asset would be sold while a transaction to purchase the club is pending.
