Will be interesting to see how he plays in a big pressure game. Technically speaking, he will be head and shoulders above anyone on that pitch but his attitude will determine whether that becomes the reality

He's fine under pressure. In the champ he has to deal with half the opposition team trying to break his legs at every opportunity.

Some background info from The Times on last year’s Grealish shenanigans.

For a time last summer, Jack Grealish was ready to pack his bags. His lifelong love affair with Aston Villa was on the rocks. The relationship had changed. All the talk, suddenly, was of tax bills and winding-up orders. It wasn’t him. It was them.

Defeat by Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final had left Villa staring into the abyss, faced with a £4 million tax bill, losing £5 million a month and seemingly days away from going into administration. The owner, Dr Tony Xia, was unable to transfer funds from China to ease the cashflow crisis. Villa were going to need to do something drastic if they were to pay the next month’s wages.

Tottenham Hotspur had been interested in Grealish all summer. His illusions, his dreams of hometown glory, were being shattered by the harsh realities of the 21st-century football business.

When the former England Under-21 midfielder was substituted in the 69th minute of a pre-season friendly away to Walsall on July 17, after a sublime performance, the ovation from the Villa supporters was long and heartfelt. Everyone knew that Tottenham wanted to sign him before flying to Los Angeles a few days later for the start of their pre-season tour.

They had already made one very tentative offer. Villa had rejected that one, wanting £30 million to ease their cashflow crisis, but their position was weakening by the day. Tottenham knew it. So did Steve Bruce, then Villa manager. So did Grealish.

Xia, though, struck another deal. Out of nowhere, seemingly, it was announced that Villa’s beleaguered owner had sold 55 per cent of the club to Nassef Sawiris, an Egyptian billionaire, and Wes Edens, an American private equity investor. With that, everything changed. When Tottenham returned with a £28 million bid on August 7, two days before the Premier League transfer window closed, they were told that Grealish was off the market.

It was an unsettling time for Grealish, 23, who had been given cause to consider all the potential benefits of leaving Villa for a club like Tottenham. Now he was being told that his future lay in the Championship with Villa after all. Rather than seeing the squad depleted, he saw reinforcements arrive — John McGinn, the Scotland midfielder, from Hibernian and Axel Tuanzebe, Yannick Bolasie, Anwar El Ghazi and Tammy Abraham on loan from Manchester United, Everton, Lille and Chelsea respectively.

When the transfer window closed, Grealish was offered a much-improved five-year contract. He signed it, persuaded by a clause that allows Premier League clubs to buy him for a pre-determined sum — reports have suggested that it could be as high as £60 million — if Villa do not win promotion this season.

If that’s true and we can’t get Grealish for any less than £60m pack it up and look elsewhere

Villa really don't want to sell so they've every right to add on another 25/30%.

Personally I think 40 million would be right at the top end for him.

But who knows.

He’s obviously not going to go for £60 mill, but it will be north of the £30 mill we offered last summer. I really hope we get him either way, tons of talent and I think he’s shown the character this season to suggest he’s really going to kick on in his career.

Can’t see villa turning down £35m if they don’t get promoted.
Grealish will push for a move in that situation and villa will have to sell or keep an unhappy player

I think if we offered £25m early last summer the deal would have been done and dusted.
really disappointed we didn't get him then, just what we need at times last season.

No way he signed a contract with a 60m release clause, unless he's an idiot.

I believe There is a seperate clause related to cl clubs too? I'm sure Trix mentioned that

Trix suggested as much but also said it was complicated.

I think there'll be a price based on PL or Championship.

Then there'll be a cheaper price for a CL side, and higher one for non-CL side. Trix said if someone bids the higher however then everyone has to match that price even if a CL club. So someone like West Ham could mess it up for us with a silly bid!

I have a feeling Villa win this and he'll stay however. Hope not as I think he's made for us.

Yup- for 25 he’d have been great. Have a feeling they’ll win today, and also even if they don’t, he’ll have gone up 15m.

We missed the boat by fucking around...just for a change

Not for me. Wayyyy too much. He's not world class ffs. He's a championship player who may come good. 25m tops or do one.
That's unfair, he's a premier league player who is only playing in the championship because he is at the club he loves, had he left Villa when they went down nobody would question his premier league status.

Think this one has gone now- Villa look like this game is theirs. Really hope we don’t spend the summer trying to talk Villa down
