It was good giving Lennon the night off so he would be fresh against Newcastle.

The kids attitude is fantastic. He's got where he has through sheer determination and willingness to improve any any weak points he has to his game. That's not to say he's without talent.

Every squad needs these kinds of players

Unsung heroes, perhaps to strong a phrase but those that do the dirty work are just as important as the star player who bangs in the goals. He seems to be one of those late developers who has worked extra hard in training and is now getting his rewards. Not big headed, doesn't steal the limelight and doesn't complain to the papers if he doesn't play. A few youngsters in the PL could well take a leaf from his book.

It's always good to have players in the squad who have come through the system. Fans seem to be able to relate to them more because of it.

And as you say he appears to be willing to work his nuts off to improve his game which will hopefully prove to be a good example to the current crop of young players in the academy.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there both Montylynch and Nidge.

We have a number of youngsters in our academy who could see what Livermore has achieved in the last 18 months, they also could break into the 1st team squad and maybe get an international call up.

Im thinking of players like Mason, Bostock, Parrett and a few others who have been written off by some already. There's still time for them

I actually think it endemic across English football that unless you have made it before a certain age it is too late for you to brake into the first team at Premier League level.

Just look at United and how much they've missed Fletcher for an example of where a player who might not have the most tricks, or fancy passes, or goals in his game, but does every job he puts his mind to with 100% committment is incredibly important to a team.

United have badly missed Fletcher even though some of my United mates still think he's not as good as Andersen :)rolleyes:) and Jake can definitely become that player for us.

He's already proven what a good utility player he is by filling in defensive positions when we needed cover last season, and doing excellent jobs, but in reality I view him as the long-term successor to Parker. Hopefully he's learning more about the defensive and reading play sides of the game from him as that's one area where he could improve. Having said that he has the potential to become better than Parker is at the moment (or maybe, 'as good as Parker used to be') as he is much more mobile and could become a real box-to-box classic CM.

The world's at his feet. I think he'll make the most of it.

This is what makes me proud to be a fan of a particular club, to see one of your own academy boys go all the way to receive that first cap for your country is what its all about, Give me this everyday over a £20 million foreign signing, I'd be quite happy to see us go down the academy route from now on, Next up Kane and Carroll over the next few years and here's to hoping they both make it with us and eventually for their Country.

Jake Livermore has never looked out of place any time I've seen him play. What's impressed me most his though is his understated nature and neat tidy football skills against some of the biggest teams we played last season, ManU etc he more than held his own.

JL is now I'd say at the same level as Jack Rodwell if not further IMO and a vaild member of our the squad. Forget loaning him out both Livermore and Caulker are ready for first team selection both are consistant steady players been recycled through the system ie loaned etc and now ready for the opportunities within the squad.

I really hope Tom Carroll makes it too he looks like a special footballer, dare I say a future play maker. With the potential amount of games available this seaon, AVB as manager, our developing players add to that Harry Kane will be used. This season really can be seen as a transitional one it could even be an era just as ManU had with Beckham Scoles Nevile bothers etc for our developing players to come through. In a way I happy we haven't gone crazy in the transfer window and I still hopefully Gio Dos Santos comes good under AVB.

Pleased for him. Think he is decent and glad he is getting his chance. He will get plenty of games this season.

What I love about Livermore is that he never goes missing. Some players, especially in midfield are guilty of hiding in tough games, every time I have seen Jake play he makes himself available for a pass.

He may not be able to hit a 40 yard pass like Hudd, but the fact he's demanding the ball and making himself available at his age and with his lack of experience is very very promising, can only get better from here.

One of the things I like about Livermore is that he doesn't lose or let his head go down when he makes a sloppy pass or gets turned. He doesn't hide and wants the ball and continues to use it economically but often quickly and tellingly. Patience is needed. He's young and inexperienced. he got an early booking on Saturday but got his game together and put in a solid display at a tough place.

SSN's sunday supplement concluded it was a "cheap cap" specifically referencing livermore which is pretty lame.

If he makes the grade, it will be fantastic for us but he's going to need the game time to develop. That will prove difficult should we get a few more bad results.

I didn't note your post before penning my own. As my words show I am in wholehearted agreement .
