with the noise and news out and about it's clear we want to step up and get top draw players and re define our strategy a little.

however if that top draw player goes to barca (no shame in that), this guy is the best of the rest for me. and still a good buy

A good player but not sure can see him swapping Newcastle where he is captain and a regular starter for us?

If Toby is leaving and he has Jan and Davinson in front of him he might fancy his chances of getting ahead of one of them.

We may also go to three at the back - He could also see the opportunity to be a leader for us for years to come as Jan may edge out in a few years.

Plenty of reasons to sign if he met and liked Poch.

Like this lad a lot. Newcastle could deal with us as I’m sure Rafa want to strengthen them in other areas.
Maybe offer them 25m plus CCV on loan??
Great insight, especially with CCV singning a new deal today. I like CCV and think he has all the attributes to be a premier league CB. However, barring an excellent preseason CCV is prbably looking at another loan and Rafa would be a great manager for him to improve his game under...look at what he has done for Yedlin and Lascelles. Price will be key on this transfer as we have several other targets that will cost big money.

I'm a big fan of Lascelles, but it seems unlikely we'd sign both him and de Ligt given that both are likely to cost 20 million or more (much more in de Ligt's case).

much prefer this guy over Mawson, that's for sure
I actually like Mawson better.

Mawson looks better in a back 3.

Plus Mawson plays far better when his team is expected to be on the front foot and pushing at the opposition - which is how we play 95% of the time. Lascelles looks to be more of a heart and soul Michael Dawson esque CB who has good leadership traits and will throw his body on the line, but I'm unsure of his ability on the ball and how good he'd actually be in a high line.

Tottenham rival Chelsea for Jamaal Lascelles transfer

Tottenham are ready to battle it out with rivals Chelsea for Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles.

Standard Sport revealed in February that the 24-year-old is a key target for Chelsea this summer to strengthen the backline.

However Spurs are also admirers of the centre half, who impressed as captain of Newcastle this season, and are stepping up the

The north London club are expected to sell Toby Alderweireld this summer after the Belgium international rejected their offer of a new contract.

Manchester United remain confident that they will agree a deal for the 29-year-old, although negotiations have stalled since Spurs began asking for in excess of £55m.

Lascelles has been earmarked as a potential replacement, although they are keen on Ajax's Holland international Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt as well

Everton are also in the running and their new coach Marco Silva wants to agree a transfer before the World Cup.

The Merseyside club plan to make an opening bid of £30m, but it is believed it will take an offer in the region of £45m to acquire Lascelles.

Newcastle have consistently stated that they don't want to sell their prize asset and Lascelles claims he is happy to stay at St James' Park.

But with coach Rafael Benitez uncertain of how much money he will be given to spend in the transfer market, their stance may soften should someone meet their valuation because the funds could then be used to acquire more players.

Fees are just enormous these days. You’re honestly talking £40m just for PL experience ffs. I do like Lascelles, not saying I don’t, but that price is obscene.

I agree, by the fact he's not even in the England squad means the likes of Chris Smalling are worth more. You wouldn't consider Smalling a 50m player....
