Jan Vertonghen believes he has had his best ever season after playing with an ankle injury against Newcastle United to ensure Tottenham Hotspur returned to the Champions League.

Well done Jan, seems like a top bloke and most definitely a top top player (got the Harry Redknapps about me today)

After initially bought from Ajax he had a great spell, seem to remember him sticking one past Man Utd in expert fashion, then following that felt he went off the boil, started making mistakes etc and wasn’t sure if he would take that next step…Ill admit I questioned him but im so happy to be proven wrong.

Jan has most definitely taken his game to the next level. For me he’s one of the first names on the team sheet and he really seems like he holds the club close to his heart……

Super Jan Vertonghen!

Only ever had one poor season for us. He has been massive for this club since he signed, I feel he'll go down as a bit of a cult hero when he leaves.

Hopefully we'll get 2-3 more seasons out of him before that time comes.

I'd put him at the same level as Mabbutt regarding quality of play, consistency and leadership.
