Honestly wouldn't care if he left. I think his attitude stinks at times and although a good player when he wants to be, lacks visible team spirit on the pitch.

He can go from a machine to half asleep from game to game and too inconsistent for my liking.

Totally agree with a lot of what you say, BUT. I still think hes our best defender, and im wondering what affect having younes and ade named as capt and vc does to a person. Especially in the middle of contract negotiations? Surely Poch and the club could of used this as leverage

Not sure if their goalscorer ran off verts or davies, but too much time in the box whichever..... From a lot of thefootball ive watched us play over the last few years our defenders (especially central def) make 2 basic errors..
1.Ball watch and gradually allow themselves to be attracted to it
2.Get themselves in shit bodypositions, whereby squaring themselves up to the crosser of the ball. Rather than opening their body up allowing them to see both crosser and the guy they're supposed to be marking
Surely this is really basic stuff that we were all taught at grass roots level ??

I suppose the plus side to his indifferent performances since last season, means he's not a great loss. But the flip side is how much better we could have been last year had he given a monkeys.
As far as I'm concerned. A seemingly terrible attitude. Not what we need at all around the club.

Hardly a surprise is it.

If he's tied to 4 years theres no panic in terms of losing him on a free but obviously we will want to sell at some point if his attitude continues to be sketchy.

At the moment though I would just play him, starting on Saturday. Kaboul and Chiriches together is just not good.

Good riddance, he embodies why we under achieve, all ability and technique, no guts or determination.

Paulinho can join him.

Total non shocker

Hanging on for an offer from Utd are we Jan? At the very least we should fleece them as they need centre backs bad

Maybe he decided not to sign a new contract and afterwards Kaboul was named captain. I thought at the time that naming Kaboul captain and Hugo and Ade vice-captain was weird. Especially with someone like Verthongen around, who must have some leadership quality. However, after reading this, it would make sense not to name Verts captain. He might ask for a move at some point when the big boys come knocking. Also, makes more sense now to play Kaboul and Chiriches over Verts. Putting pressure on him to commit to the club or sit on the bench.

I have to agree that he does seem as if he does not care every now and then. Might just be his body language, I thought he looked similar playing for Belgium.

Its the goons who are sniffing.

If Utd don't challenge them they're crazy. He'll be well on their radar too and their need is even greater. But yes. Either way, it's pretty clear he's angling for a move and will only sign if nothing comes about. And like many, hard to be bothered, his attitude has stunk for a long time.

Arguably modern Spurs in a nutshell: great on paper, unreliable in practice, and with an overinflated opinion of itself.

It's stuff like this that makes me fed up with football.

From his point of view I have to say I can't blame him. Lets see if we stick with Poch for a while or follow the pattern thats been ruining our club for decades.....

From my point of view I don't really care too much. No room for sulkers no matter how good they are. He should keep his football doing the talking and then he'll get the contract he's been looking for (probably with Barca but at least it would matter to me).

He's not shown himself to be too good for Spurs at all tho. So while you may not blame his professional ambition, I do blame his general lack of care for his performances for his current employer. Likewise his massive sulks for playing left back when he busts a gut there for his country

Really think he's massively overrated for us. Few moments of class but never been so angry at a player as I was his dreadfully immature and petulant showing against West Brom a season or so back. Sure he'll be great somewhere he thinks is worth his effort, but he'll be such a tiny footnote at Spurs. Has done very little while here. But hey, whatever

It's Poch's job to get rid of them and bring better players in, either through the transfer market or youth set up.

I've always felt that we have never really seen Jan at his full potential. He seems such a let down after the way I remember him playing during his Ajax years.
