If he signs for Arsenal, I'll dislike him more than Campbell. At least the latter played out of his skin while at Spurs and Arsenal were a league-challenging side then.

I really do not blame him - Why would he want to stay? Furthermore, his attitude does stink.

This. win-win. The question is why the club is offering him a new deal when he's got lots of time left on his current one. He certainly doesn't deserve better terms. And I'd imagine we are not on the trajectory he thought we were on...which was to compete with the upper echelons of English footy.

I think some of you need to get a grip! My guess is based on current performances the club decided to hold off on any new contract unless he improves. He has 4 years left on his current deal......I don't see a problem here

Ha ha. Seriously? What a bizarre reading of events. He's not signed the contract offered to him, so how is this plausible?

We may not rate him as highly as he rates himself, so it may not be a good enough offer, that would be something else tho

If we sell him it will be on reputation, certainly not performance. If he is looking for a move he'll up his performance levels that's for sure.

As he has 4 years left someone will need to pay top dollar, Levy won't let him go on the cheap. I'd bite someone's hand off for £25 million +.

Finally, I don't know how many clubs there are that would actually want him.

It was pretty unpleasant what campbell went through. If Vertonghen really has his heart set on the gooners then it would be better for everyone if he was gently pushed under a bus.
I mean that in a kind way....

He's a wanker. Not even a very good defender. Has made so many mistakes for us since he's been here I've given up counting

Not worth the aggro and definitely doesn't live up to the hype. Sell him in January if anybody wants him for decent money

Signing a contract doesn't mean he will stay. 4 years is a about right, he will be 31 then. So it's ok we got him for 10m

And replace him with who ? There is not many CB out there that are any good with premier experience. It's going too take a lot of money too get someone like that, maybe 20m plus

It's as I feared then. He's unsettled by something he'd "rather not say" what is and doesn't want to stay. Bad news as he is our best centreback, and someone we should be building the team around, but if he wants out he can get out, just NOT to a PL side.
Until then he should start for us, beginning on Saturday.

To be fair he wanted to come to Spurs because we were playing fantastic football and were on the up.
He joined, we sacked Harry (think it was that way round? Close call) before he'd kicked a ball and its been down hill ever since (who would have thought).
Not very professional granted and the way he's been playing its no big loss but in that parallel world where we never sacked Harry, Bale stayed and we got top 4 for a third time he played with a massive smile on his face and was one of the best cbs in the epl.
In our reality he's bloody miserable and to be fair its understandable.

All he has said is that he is not signing a new contract but that he is happy here? I'm not sure how that equates into us selling him when he has 4 years left on his contract?
Levy probably wanted to insert a (buyout?) clause he wasn't happy with and hence why they haven't signed?

Funny lot, my fellow Spurs fans. He's far and away our best centre back. Got in the premier league team of the year two seasons ago. Last year he played in different positions in a constantly changing back four under two managers and had some injuries. Had a poor season maybe and made a few mistakes. Suddenly we're all body language experts. Just because he doesn't smile all the time like a grinning idiot he must have a bad attitude. Why should he sign a new contract when he's hot 4 years left. I've got a 6 month contract and recently refused to sign a notice period extension because I might get a better offer. Oh but I forgot Jan plays for the mighty spurs; a team who have won nothing of note in 20 years, sell our best players, don't pay particularly high wages, are making no progress with a new stadium and have impatient fickle fans.
