Yeah. Love the attitude. The last piece of the puzzle. A standard is being set. One which the club tries it's damndest to reach. If we don't meet it then fine. See where we can improve, what we can do differently but there needs to be a common goal everyone is aware of so they can all pull in the same direction. Think that will help slowly instill a mentality into the players and it's where we fall down comapred to the others clubs.

Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen, who plays at centre back for Spurs but left back for Belgium, has been singled out by Lukaku as the hardest opponent he has faced in an interview with Belgian football magazine Le Vif.

"Jan Vertonghen," said Lukaku. "He is fast, much more than people think. It appears less in the national team as he plays at full back," he added.

@thfc1973 @Chris12 What's your :poop: problem? It is a Jan link in a Jan thread

They clearly aren't Super Jan fans - don't worry about it.

Does he have 2 yrs left at the end of this season? If so and we hear nothing about a new contract towards the end of the season or over the summer then I would imagine the club will do it's thing and this might be the last season we see Jan in a Spurs shirt.

If you haven't noticed....there are NO Player watch: Jan Vertonghen thread....so I had to choose one among 1024 Jan threads, and it happened to be this one
It was either this or start a new thread. Makes perfect sense to me @Dharmabum

Don't let this disgusting display of cyber violence get to you.

Do you guys think Jan might sign another contract now that Toby is here?
Crossing my fingers. I think it entirely depends on how we do this season tbh. Jan will be what 28ish at the end of the season? The clock is ticking for his career and he might see that we could have a legitimate chance at winning stuff in 3 years or so but he'll be 30/31 by then and all we'd have is a chance.

If we win a cup and have a decent league season then maybe I guess. I'm already prepared for him and Hugo leaving at some point though I think and not in the too distant future. Hugo being a GK means he might stick around for a couple of years longer.

edit: Just checked. He'll be 29 at the end of this season. Yeah, I'll get the bunting up and cake baked for his leaving do.

Still, with Dier already here and Toby we'd have a very good first choice pairing ready to go. Man, those first couple of seasons seemed so exciting to me when Verts joined. He joined, we had a decent season and then the Beatles summer. Looked like everything had fallen into place.

It's a pity we didn't sign a 25 yr old Verts this summer really as he could be the captain that lifts our first bit of serious silverware in a good while in 2 or 3 seasons. Life is about timing or something.
