IN CONVERSATION - Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen last Sunday for the second time a visit to Tottenham Hotspur. The Belgian was with Mustapha Nakhli agent in London, attended the game between the Spurs and Fulham (2-0).

Vertonghen and his agent talked extensively with the administration of the English club, reports the Telegraph. Spurs finished the season fourth in the Premier League for next season and will therefore participate in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League unless Chelsea win the Champions League. The Spurs want Vertonghen like to take over at Ajax, but are still negotiating with Ajax over the transfer fee. The defender is not until mid 2013 fixed at Ajax.

Vertonghen already visited London in early March along with teammate Siem de Jong. The pair watched as the match Arsenal - AC Milan at the invitation of former teammates Thomas Vermaelen (Arsenal) and Emanuelson (AC Milan). At that time in London also spoke Vertonghen for the first time with both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur interested.

"I'm not nervous about the negotiations," Vertonghen gave last Sunday yet to assign the NIS. "I think the clubs have come out. It is exciting that I am about everything here in Amsterdam will have to leave behind me. "

Serious question. Is he any good?

Don't know anything about him to be honest. Is the first choice for Belgium?

What kind of style centre half is he?

Similar to Ledley King playing wise, left footed...very good coming out of the back with the ball.

Plays a lot of LB for Belgium with Kompny and Vermelane as first choice. Very versatile can play CB/LB/DM

Captain of Ajax, one year left on his contract, he will be awesome for us if we get him!

I hope this is not another Vucinic saga where we are set to sign him for weeks and then someone else gets him.

De Boer confirms he was at our game.

Jan Vertonghen is ready for the next step, agrees Frank de Boer. The Ajax coach praises the Belgians for the development he has been through. And the Vertonghen outside the lines, De Boer charm.

"But we will not really in January for less than his transfer value away, because it is such a great guy," says De Boer Monday in The Guardian. Reportedly, the asking price about twelve million.

Tottenham Hotspur is the most practical for Vertonghen, who was allowed to last weekend's game against Tottenham Fulham post. The defender was with Ajax in Barcelona to celebrate the league title.

"John asked and received permission to leave earlier just to be allowed from Barcelona," says De Boer. "He wanted to see Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur at Spurs would be around." From the ereloge Vertonghen saw Tottenham with a 2-0 win.

Him at the game is very promising.
But for sure these things are always complicated.

Still, this isn't a standard media report or ITK from the dark shadows. He was at the game, he is negotiating and early doors too. That is positive.

They shouldn't really have crated him up to keep it a secret.

He wasn't just at the game, but also came with his agent and they had a meeting with the Spurs board. Telegraaf reported this late in the night and had an update later. Was trying to post this yesterday, but couldn't get on somehow. :)

Van Der Wiel also likely out, his agent had talks with Real Madrid according to AS. They say VDW has turned down higher wages at PSG (3.5m annually) to sign for Madrid (3.1m annually).
