I feel for the guy I really do. He's taken a risk in moving here as I suspect if he'd stayed in the Dutch league his career would still be going OK. I just hope Poch has a plan because we've been so reliant on Kane for ages now. I never imagined Janssen could dislodge Kane but I'd hoped by now he could provide cover in games like Fulham and Gent. I hope he'll come good but if it's not going to happen we should ship.him out and get someone else in, though I've no idea who.

I'm wondering if he is good enough to adapt to the game in the Premiership.

It's quite hit and miss, you can land a player like Soldado and then you can also get a player like Berbatov.

I can only see this ending one way. Feel sorry for the lad, but he just can't cut the mustard. It happens to some of the best of em' like Soldado, and Soldado and ...............

I think he will come right. His hold up play and work ethic are great- he just needs to be more selfish.

A full pre season with us and we will see how good he can be

Only time will tell but think we need to give him till the end of next season or at least till next Jan.
You can see he looks up for it and he puts a shift in and holds the ball up well.....but sometime he looks too keen and seems to be trying to force things. Also think he's not on the same wave length with the rest of the players and that would improve with time just like lamela.

Another issue is game time atm we need to be putting our best 11 out every game to stay in the cups and push on in the league,so the mins aren't there for him either.
Hoping a good full pre season with plenty of game time will give him more of a understanding of what poch wants, how the players around him play as in there movement, thoughts etc....and the confidence he needs to believe he can cut it with us!

About time we started looking in our own division rather than spunking countless millions on overseas players.

Some were say the same things about Lamela in his first season and it took him until his third season to come good. I'm not saying VJ will be as good as EL, but at least give him a chance of a full season, including pre-season training.

Like Davies (who some are saying isnt good enough), Sigurdsson (who was let go too soon), Chris Armstrong, Bent, Andy Booth, Saha etc.....
No guarentees anywhere mate.

He's toast. He's gone in the Summer. Surprised anyone still thinks he may have a future here. He's out of his depth. We'll take a big hit on the transfer fee.

He was worth the risk as he seemed to be a good fit. The fact is that £17m is not a lot these days to spend on a young striker when you see the like of Jordan Ibe go for £15m. We either accept that we are taking a risk and might have to be patient with players or spend the big money for top players, who have a higher likelihood to succeed.

We never lost money on any of those players mentioned, and highly doubt we'll lose anything on Davies. If they wont work out, we'll still get our money back, we got next to nothing for Soldado and will have to take a huge drop on Janssen. Someone like a Snodgrass or Deeney who would step in and score goals, and if they didnt, we would still get our money back.

Do you mean players like Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Dembele, Eriksen, Lloris, Lamela, Wanyama and Son? British players come at premium, inflated prices.

We should get Dembele from Celtic and if necessary send Janssen up there as a loan. I thought we were going to buy Dembele at the end of last season and am mystified why we didn't.

Snodgrass is a winger so can't see how you can mention him as an alternative striker. Ignoring the fact he's 30 years old.
Deeney is a lump who doesn't look particularly effective in a poor Watford team.
And he's 29.
You wouldn't get your money back on either of those at their age.

We've got a clear strategy of signing young players who Poch feels he can improve; not long in the tooth journeymen.

It's perfectly feasible that, if the roles were reversed, Janssen would be tearing it up in the abominably shite SPL, and Dembele would be struggling in the ultra tough EPL. It's hard to compare players who are operating at totally different level. It's as irrelevant as Janssen's stellar performances in the Eredivisie unfortunately.

Would love to see him make the grade as his attitude has always looked so good. A player who is prepared to work for the team, get stuck in.

That lump and winger have scored from open play since their time at their clubs. Cost a fraction of the price too.
