Last week ramos was quoted as saying he doesn;t like the jan transfer window and only desperate teams tend to buy...........

i wonder after seeing the game on sunday whether his opinions have changed... Surely we have to buy players in jan to stand a chance of getting something out of the season..........?

I don;t see any teams more desperate then us at the moment?

Our sick bay is working overtime to save the club money in January.

By then Jenas and King ought to be back in contention.

Hmmm. Have I been living under a rock?
Where was this quoted? Is there a source?
Oh and we ARE a desperate team! Ramos surely knows this.

"I don't like the January transfer market, because the good players are already with their teams," said Ramos.

"If a team has a good player, they are not going to give him away. In January, the only teams that sign players are the desperate teams.

"You've got to make your signings calmly and be certain about what you want and what you need.

"We need experience and leadership. Because the team is very young, it's possible we need somebody to take responsibility and cope with the pressure we're under at the moment."

Whilst he says no great players are available in Jan he has a good point, but also says experience is necessary so i reckon that is exactly what we will bring in when the window opens

not sure what our club will like about that, buying experience = someone who is aging on in years with no resell value!

i wonder how that will go down with levy and co.

I think we'll really see how much levy wants us to suceed.

There are always a few good players available in the January transfer window, but not many, so it does take a good deal of sifting through the dross to find them. That's why Ramos is reluctant to say he'll be active in the January transfer market.

I keep hearing nasty rumours about The Return of The King, and it isn't sounding great. The scripts been rewritten and this time Lord Sauron turns up at the party with a fuck off axe and chops off his knees.

Loosely translated Our Kings footballing future looks very very poor.

Realistically who can we get that would make any difference to our team in january? No-one. All the decent players are estabilished at clubs and unless there is something majorly wrong wont jump ship unless there keen on a move and we pay a shite load of money. We could buy players on the fringes of 1st teams but wont be an awful lot better than what we have. As for ramos saying that, he probably knows we have enough in the squad not to get relegated and when our injured players come back we will have a squad capable of climbing the table. He will wait till the end of the season to get his targets as it gives the players time to settle in. Look what happened with vidic and evra at united. They werent at all that good when signed in the jan transfer window cos they didnt have the time to settle. But look at how good they are now. There is no point throwing money at players in jan that wont make the difference only to offload them a season or 2 later cos they havent got a game because ramos has got his targets at the end of the season.

I heard something (sort of) similar too - that this is King's last chance to get back in. If he doesn't recover fully, he will have to retire!!!!!

I think that's why his reintroduction is taking so long, they want to make sure they've got it right this time.

Back to the subject at hand, I think we HAVE to look to buy. Just one more CB. We can't go on like this, Dawson can't play without King, and at the moment Kaboul can't play!

I loved Kaboul when i first saw him, but sadly he is turning into Titus Bramble, good defender but makes lots of Big mistakes so i would say 1 experienced starting cb is what is needed, tho i do think Rocha will do well when he comes back.

We need the Henrik Larsson of CB's. We could really do with doing what Man Utd did last January; A quick fix, ready made, boil-in-the-bag behemoth of experience and composure.

I agree with Ramos on that mather. Hossam Ghlay, Danny Murphy, Hamdaoui, Reid, Halfredsson, Limbersky, Toda and Brown...where are they now...

United signed Vidic and Evra in the January window, although it took both of them some time to adapt to English football.

To be honest, we don't need players that are going to turn us into a title winning team. We need players that area going to steady the ship.
Simply put, our defense is terrible, one, if not the worst in the league.
For a team tipped to take Arsenal's palce in the top four this season, its seriously embarrassing.

Now we need to get some experienced heads into the squad and the starting line up, so look at whats available.
Villa have a centre back that we could do a job for 6 months, certainly wouldn't be worse than what we have, and he has been linked to us (everyone is linked to us!!!)
I'll be happy if we get one centre back this january, that is all we need to steady the ship.

Also did you hear the rumour about Middlesborough the only club to put a bid in for Ronaldinho at 10m... lol!

Why spend money? Bring in some loans (with a view to buy just in case they turn out to be awesome) and re-assess in july.

The only thing we might get out of this season is progress off-field ie. revision of the straightjacketing in the transfer market, new owner, new Lane. No amount of buying under the present 'system' will improve our prospects. For that matter baring bringing in 8 or 9 established internationals forget any prospects on the field.

Might see some more realism here in the assesment of the likes of JD, JJ, AL.
