No, what he said was that Harry and Levy think the team is good enough. If they decide between now and January that a few areas need strengthening, then limited money will be made available. He then went on to explain how this was because teams don't like to deal in January. When do any teams ever spend big in the summer?

So essentially what Levy is saying is that we sold both Berbatov and Keane for £50million with the intention of only replacing them with Pav for £14 million?


We finished last summer in the black with a net gain...we have just announced a record year. We definitely need another striker, a DM and a CB and if we dont get that I will be disappointed.


Perhaps he's just sandbagging though so we dont get rinsed by the other clubs.

It's also a good message to send out. Given our league postion potential selling clubs could assume we are desperate to buy and may try to squeeze more money from us.

Ok they will probably still try this, but atleast using the terms limted funds and squad strong enough already gives the impression that signing players in Jan is not a high priority of ours and may atleast have the effect of teams accepting more reasonable offers (if they themselves are looking to sell)

Exactly, he merely meant there wouldn't be wholesale changes, or massives money being spent like we usually have in the summer. It's nothing to worry about. You could be worried if he had said that the stadium fundings would affect the transfer funds, but it he didn't.

To be fair to Levy, there's always been money available if the right players become available. Obviously, he wants a fair price (Arshavin anyone?) but if there is a player(s) that Redknapp wants, I'm sure the money will be provided.

The rumors in the summer suggested that Zenit raised their price for Arshavin once they realiased how much we got for Keane, so it makes sense not to state how much we have to spend.

Anyway, Levy never reveals our transfer budget, and in the interveiws yesterday i got the impression that he was saying that money would only be spent if the right players became available. Besides in a sense every club has limited transfer funds available.

Once again though the Press seem to put a negative twist onto things.

It would be nice to see us get some good bargain deals though. A few suggestions from me:

Appiah - free
Owen - £5m? (still to renew his contract)
Parker - £4m?
Bridge - £5m?

In the ideal world i'd love to see us get Arshavin. I know we have Modric, but i think we could be very effective with Arshavin on the left, provided we have a solid central midfield. So a combination of say, Arshavin and Toulalan would be great. But i think we'd have to wait until the summer to get this type of player. I think we'll have to really correct our League position to attract big names again. So the names i mention above could be realistic, and good enough to build on next season.

There's no point in him saying anything else - with a way to go before the next transfer window, the club can wait to see what happens, e.g. the current set of strikers hit form, or one or more get injured, etc. What's Bent & Pavyluchenko going to think if he comes out and says we're going after a big signing in the striking dept. come Jan?
