No chance ! The bloke has not recovered from a ruptured ACL, so how we gonna do a stringent medical when we agree a fee at 11.30pm ? No chance this is happening. We go with what we got I'm afraid, which as we saw yesterday leaves is in another season of transition. Deja vu anyone ?

I just hope we dont blow a major load on a player thats just done his cruciates.

It's for this reason I'm also still hesitant towards this transfer, but if we're willing to spend heavily on it then it's only logical to assume his recovery is going very well/knowsomething we don't know.

Personally would still massively prefer a tight-spaces dribbler, but I'll have to trust Poch in this one.

To be fair to J Rod, if you look back over the pages of this thread, someone did post a YouTube clip of him back in training from a few weeks back, and he's certainly giving it some, doesn't look tentative or hesitant etc. Though in balance I guess you never really know till he's back in game mode getting tackled and having pressure put on him.

People place too much faith in these medicals. They're very rudimentary, simply to assess whether the play can make it on the pitch or not. Check basic body biochem, make sure they're physically capable of running, and do X-rays to try and make sure all the bones are intact. They cannot the precise integrity of every ligament in the body, even with an MRI. With the fact he's up and running in his recovery, any specifics beyond that would not be visisble to the MRI.

Saying this to have faith, as the medical wouldn't show anything of concern one way or the other. The only true test would be assessing him over time. I'm hoping that if we're willing to spend this much cash, that he has proven significant recovery in his rehab.

Medicals are also used to discover if there are problems that are NOT in the medical records that the owning club provides the buying club. We would obviously have the knowledge that Rodriguez is recovering from an ACL tear which would have no effect on how he could pass a medical.

Please Levy. If you're gonna let Holtby go on loan, give me someone to fawn over

Ugh, don't like that we let them get Mane, but if Poch wants Rodriguez this badly then I'm all for it. Feel Mane would have been the much better choice for unlocking defenses with pace and dribbling ability.

Maybe, mate? However, it's that word "IF".. Mane would only be a better choice IF he settles/performs in the PL. We already know that there's no IF on that score with Rodriguez (y)

True that.

For me personally though, I would have preferred that risk though. Rodriguez seems to be excellent at exploiting space in behind, but we aren't often afforded that space. So many times use the narrowness of the Lane and just buckle down, and we often seem to struggle breaking through. We just don't have a particularly skilled dribbler in those tight spaces to cause problems, and I think we should have taken a risk on one.

I hope it works out though, as it seems Poch is very keen as he's seemingly not let this one go. Would love to be wrong here in my hesitation!

Right, time to go to bed, think Stort's got given a solid gold fact with his ITK, we're not signing anyone else. I think it's been said before, Poch does not see our problems being resolved in one window.

I wouldn't be that surprised if Jay ended up signing a new contract if Southampton start doing well.

I'd have happily taken Ben Arfa. Yet another lefty, but could certainly have improved our winger options. Has that element in the tight spaces we don't have at the moment.
