We should stay away from this lad until he's been playing for a good 6 to 9 months again. Too much of a massive gamble. The fact he was meant to be back last November but still hasn't kicked a ball should tell you everything you need to know about going after him.

Well tbf, he had to have surgery again to clear scarring in the way of the healing process as is quite common with this injury, but I do very much agree that we should avoid.

I'd be happy with the risk for the right price. However, I wouldn't expect Southampton to sell him that cheaply, because they'll also be willing to take a certain degree of a gamble on him.

I actually think his delayed return may be advantageous to us. Koeman is clearly doing fine without him. I also don't think Koeman is one to disrupt a squad by starting a player due to merit. This would mean that Rodriguez is not looking too strong to retake a spot in the starting 11, meaning it may be best for him to move to another club and start fresh.

He's out of contract next summer and has said he won't extend. If Soton don't sell him this coming summer, he'll leave on a free.

I would really not go for him until he can show he's not lost anything on the pitch. After such a long lay off after serious injury, I'm afraid he might suffer from the Kaboul syndrome.

The point is that someone will take the punt, given he will be in the last 12 months of his contract, and its possible that a £20m+ player goes for a quarter of that.

Worth the gamble I think

Steer clear.

That injury takes some coming back from and, even after a comeback, most players are simply not the same and far more susceptible to further injury.

@SimonPeach: I asked Koeman if @JayRodriguez9 would be at #SaintsFC next season. "Of course I expect we don’t sell the player," he said.

Can't we sign him and send him to Harry Redknapp's knee doctor?

He's "fit as a fiddle" and was only forced to give up his job about 8 weeks ago, so the man must be a miracle worker.

His price won't hit 8 figures with him being in the last year of his contract and having had a year out injured.

To my mind £7-8m would be a fair price.

He'd also be mad to go and fill the 'Scott Sinclair token Englishman' position at City. He needs to be playing football again

Thank you, you legend. (y)

If we getting Jay & losing Soldado & Ade, does that mean Lamela (if he stays) as 2nd striker?

Would love the Schneiderlin bit to be true, but if Poch's plan is for Rodriguez at winger then I don't think that will solve our problems. Wouldn't mind him at striker though of course.

I'd imagine we are looking for a new striker too, at least I hope we are.
I'd like to believe this ITK I can't help thinking that Schneiderlin was a Spurs player in his own mind last summer, it was Southampton that went back on their word to him so we would still be high on his list.
