Spurs midfielder could be in trouble following Webb comments.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas could be in hot water with the Football Association for his remarks about referee Howard Webb following the 5-2 defeat to Manchester United.

The FA has written to the England international asking him to explain his comments about Webb, who awarded a controversial penalty against Spurs when the visitors were leading 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

An FA spokesman said: "We have written to Jermaine Jenas to ask for an explanation for his remarks."

Jenas has seven days to respond after which FA disciplinary chiefs will decide whether he is to face a charge or not.

The remark the FA takes issue with is when Jenas said after the game: "One thing which struck me about it was that he [Webb] didn't even think.

"It was like he'd already made his mind up when he came out for the second half that he was going to give something."

He also said: "I think it was a case of a referee crumbling under the pressure at Old Trafford really.

"The atmosphere, the occasion, the importance of the match, a lot of factors take their toll when making decisions."

    Dear FA

I made those remarks because Howard Webb is a corrupt, cheating **** who deliberately gave a dodgy penalty to ensure Man U won.

    Capiche?

    Regards

    Jermaine Jenas

Not much to explain really, have they watched the tapes?

Jenas isn't very bright, I'd say. Stating that a ref came out after half-time with the intention of cheating is pretty dopey. Comments like this just show a complete lack of self-awareness - the ref didn't think, the ref came out of the tunnel having decided to give Man U something, the ref got overawed by the atmosphere and occassion, the ref crumbled - all of these observations could obviously be applied to Jenas and his team-mates.

We obviosuly felt aggrieved, but it's Jenas' job to get on with it. He's not supposed to be like us - it's his job to keep his head while we're 2-1 up.

The door is open again for the Jenas argument. I'm on the fence, which is to say I don't agree with his most ardent detracters but I reckon there must be a more consistent professional that can replace him. And since we're still in the market for strong characters with winning mentalities, I think his position is the one most vulnerable to a newcomer.

Funny thing is, just after the second half started, I said to my brothers that the ref was gonna make a dodgy decision, either a penalty or a red card and it would change the game. And, lo and behold, literally five minutes later, the ref awards Man Utd a penalty as soon as was fucking possible.

Jenas simply defecting attention away from his and others performances

I'm not a fan of Jenas, but I've been waiting yonks for a spurs player or manager to come out with these kind of comments. For me the only one who's ever thrown enough at the unassailable manure was mourinho. I was livid with Jol for his casual acceptence of the way that bent clatenburg cheated us out of a goal (as mourinho said "the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in football")

The only thing that will stop the corrupt refs is a concerted effort of fans, players, and managers of other clubs. People have to stop limiting their comments due to fear of punishment.

So, well done Jenas for taking a stand for free speech!

Webb is probably one of the few semi-decent refs out there, but JJ's right; he did buckle under the pressure.

I do admire JJ stepping up to say what needed to be said; and if he has to pay a fine the I say well done to the lad. Far too many players lack the passion to say what they and the fans are feeling.

Team played pretty well, and I can't fault them for feeling hard done by for a few minutes and then buckling under the onslaught of 120 million pounds worth of attacking options being thrown at you at once; along with the kitchen sink.

    Keep it up JJ.

I think they'll make an example of Jenas, under the guile of the "Respect The Ref" thing. In my opinion, Webb didn't respect Spurs enough to give a balanced performance and thus doesn't deserve our respect back. He's definitely lost mine, I used to think he was alright.

Standing up to the terrible refereeing trend of home bias at Old Trafford is fair enough, but saying a ref came out at half-time with the pre-meditated intention to cheat is plain stupid. Jenas will be fined at the very least. It was a terrible decision, as was Mendes goal, but accusing refs of cheating is no way to change the trend. The way to combat this was shown by Davey Moyes before the FA cup semi final - bring the United bias up before the game and get it into the media and into the refs head. It's how Ferguson has operated and how to fight back. Bring it up in the build up to every game at Old Trafford so that refs are well aware of the scrutiny. Calling them cheats amounts to hysteria and wont make refs review their approach.

I am generally a Jensa detractor, but I have a lot of respect for him for making these comments and I only wish more follow his lead.

Will the F.A. be writing to Mr Webb for an explination of his performance?

Jenas was fantastic in the first half, he was shite in the second, im glad hes come out with these comments, he has the cash to pay any fine and it atleast shows that theres some passion in the lad. Plus it brings that bollocks decision into the spotlight even more.
  13. adwanhussein
Jenas should be lauded for his gutsy remarks. The F.A would be better advised to investigate the notorious conduct of their referees ;espically their rush to give the big four favorable decisions when they are trailing in a match.I have seen it so often this season and it is giving me second thoughts about the Premier League.
  14. bspurs
Just say " I saw it with my eyes, Ferguson handed money to Webb at the half time."

Bring everyone in the team to be witnesses.

Would you investigate them, FA ?

I used to sometimes bashed Jenas, but now I love him !!!

Do you know what, poor JJ can do nothing right at all.

He gets slated on here when he performs poorly, (fair enough, most players should), when he performs well he is just doing his job. Now he comes out with comments, talking like us fans are about the inept performance of Howard Webb, and gets slated for that.

All he is guilty of here is showing some passion, he is talking like a fan, talking like a fan should want a player to talk, i for one think it is great that a player has come out with these coments, because yes, he will get a fine, but It shows that he cares, and if people in the game do not talk about the referees for fear of being fined/banned, whatever, nothing will ever be done about the referees and they will continue to get away with this type of behaviour.

I have always been on JJ's side, and I do think there is more to come, but do you know what, I think he should move away from Spurs for his own sanity, beacuse he will never do right for alot of Spurs fans.

Anyway JJ, well done for your comments

Poor choice of words by JJ but he is probably correct. Man utd on poor form, losing 2-0 at home. I obviously can't be 100% sure but it just strikes me as a dodgy decision.....there is too much money in the game for it to be all above board.
  17. bigspurs
It should be Howard Webb facing the music, not Jenas. Jenas isn't the one making massive and highly suspicious mistakes. Webb should be investigated on bias and possibly police corruption charges!
  18. Sanj
 Well said - repped (well i would if i could see where to do it - or is this not possible on front page news?)!!
he has come out and said what a lot of us weere saying, and what the club should have done on many occasions on the past. Time to let the ref's know that they cannot keep walking over us without reproach!!!
  19. UncleBuck
JJ has shown a bit of passion which is what we have been saying the players have lacked for years. If I was in his position I think I would have come out with exactly the same.

Fair play son, now lets move on and finish the season with a couple of wins and grab that 7th spot!

Can't see as if there is any further point in commenting about it, nothing will happen to Webb, the FA still won't look at introducing video technology and we'll still be having this discussion in 15 years time.
