Fantastic quote that neatly encapsulates Jenas' performances this season, and quite a few others to be fair:

'Dave Mackay would run through brick walls for Tottenahm. Jenas would apologetically whisper that he has lost the keys for the door, then sleep on a park bench for the night'.

Brilliant

Didier Zokora would no doubt run through walls for Tottenham - trying to get the ball back after his attempt to control the ball ended up over the other side.

All joking aside, whilst JJ is a pale comparison to the likes of Mackay he does compare favourably to the likes of Jason Dozzell and quite a few of our more recent history.

It was actually Graham Roberts who said he'd run through a brick wall for Spurs, but the principle holds good. The Sunderland game summed it up for me, with Jenas wimping on to the ref about Etuhu being nasty to him. Can you imagine Mackay or Roberts or Mullers doing that? No, you can't. They'd have kicked the **** six feet into the air. (Etuhu, I mean, not the ref.)

A couple more Roberts-isms that should be pinned up on the dressing-room door.

'I earned the right to get in the team, and fought every game to be in it.'

'Every game I played was a bonus.'

Right now i'd settle for a low cost, high violence midfield double signing of:supered:and Tommy Gravesen on loan. Lenny & Bale can do the running.

Jenas and Zokora, don't know what more could be said about them that hasn't been said. Yesterday I saw Zokora wimp out of so many challenges, pathetic and never a defensive midfielder.

Mackay is a club legend, Jenas clearly won't be. In fact, it is difficult to talk about them in the same sentence.

That brilliant picture of Mackay getting hold of Bremner was in the Spurs Members newsletter sent out this week. Be good if some of our current midfielders showed that same fighting spirit.

IMO we had won the game and were trying to avoid injuries. We did enough to win and have a fit squad for Sunday.

I think JJ and Zok are pretty good players for us. We have won 2 and drawn 1 (Prem away from home) under Ramos and kept some clean sheets.

OBVIOUSLY a Spurs legend is better than the pair, but I didn't see Jenas back down when there was some handbags.

You'd have to have seen them both play.

Davie was a man of steel.

Jenas is plastic.

No comparison. Made of different stuff altogether.

it's comparing their attitudes, not their footballing ability

I'd say it's more the difference in football as a game these days. You simply don't get as many "hard men" as you used to. It's a sign of the way the game has gone. Players aren't literally playing for their next pay check as the old boys were. Their attitudes are different to yesteryear.

It's not just Jenas, it's the vast majority of footballers these days who are a bit, how I can put this...... fairy like.

You're not wrong. And don't forget that refs have clamped down so much on the hard men that they just can't exist in the modern game as they did in even the 90's (Vinnie Jones etc).

Both Jenas and Zokora have pretty much lost my patience now. Im really not one to slag off our players and I have tried to look at the positives for these two, Jenas has shown potential and had good games from time to time but is far too inconsistant, while Zokora has basically been terrible and worst and average at best.

I have resisted the tempation to join the anti Jenas bandwaggon, because he clearly he a talented player and natural athelete. His inconsistancy is becoming old now though, he is no longer a young player who can show his promise but never really make a significant influence strecthing over numerous games.

He should be performing to his best (or near it) week in week out he is of the age where he should be a consistant performer and he is not.

As for Zokora, I really fail to see why we signed him and what he actually brings to our team. I have waited and waited for him to 'settle' into a new league. Ok he is African, ok he has been playing in France....but just because Drogba started off poorly and went on to be a star in our league is no promise that Zokora will.

Ultimaltely Drogba always had the attributes to succeed, he is big, strong/powerful and fast, Zokora however is basically a runner who makes little to no posive contribution to the team.

A handful of assists and the odd long run down a blind alley are all I have seen as far as promise from him. I basically cringe when I see his name on the team sheet.

How long do we wait for Jenas to develop into a consistant performer and Zokora to become the 'midfield maestro' Spursking has informed us he will be?

Its seems to me that currently the pair are about as useful as arse hair and unless Ramos has an amazing effect on the two and dramatically improves either or boths game we would be better off replacing them.
