Reports in Portugal this afternoon that we are 'very close' to signing Hoffenheim FB right-back Jeremy Toljan after Benfica dropped out of the race. Roma also said to be interested. He recently won the European U21 Championship with Germany.

Here's the link (annoyingly it's behind a paywall, but you can see the Toljan to us thing in the sub-heading)

You're probably going to need a link to keep this open. Also, there's reportedly been interest from Bayern, Napoli and Chelsea, too.

The choice is low and as such, Benfica needs to go to the market. Rui Vitória only has a right back (Pedro Pereira) and it is necessary to reinforce this position after Nélson Semedo's departure for Barcelona.

According to advance Record newspaper, Jeremy Toljan and Pavel Kaderábek, two right-backs from Hoffenheim, are the latest targets of the 'incarnates', who are aiming to advance to their signings.

Toljan, 22, is a more complicated target due to the fact that he is close to signing a contract with Tottenham. The German player, who won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship this summer, is seen as a player with a large margin of progression and Hoffenheim wants to make a big splash with its sale.

Already Kaderábek, the problem may come from the German club itself. This is because the right side is negotiating the contract renewal, which may be worth a substantial increase in your salary.

Seems to fit all the criteria..age, contract low, position. My only doubt is the source of the story, very rare that a story is correct when the source isn't from one of the countries involved (seller, buyer, player). Would make sense though.

You'd hope these young talented players would see beyond the wealth offered at Chelski. He'd soon be loaned out somewhere abroad if he chose them.

In terms of Toljan. I confess not to know him but I wonder if it's concrete or a leak from our side to help lower the price for Pereira.

Toljan and Pereira are so versatile, you could make a case for signing them both.

Probably not fully accurate but whoscored say he only started one game at right back last season...

Doesn't seem to different from Walker-Peters?

Hoffenheim has Pavel Kaderabek who's a pretty good player at RB. Which is why when you see where Toljan plays for his club it's typically LB and Midfield. He played RB for Germany in the U21 Euros and did very, very well. He's just a really versatile player.

Can't speak for the Euros. Whoscored say he didn't play at lb. 8 games at RM, 3 at LM, 1 CM, 1 DM, 1 RB and 6 games as sub. He is definetely versatile. Thanks for the information

Wouldn't totally trust WhoScored and their positions. They can be really out of whack at times.

Sky Sports also reporting Toljan situation via Bild, but no mention of us yet.

Hoffenheim are interested in Dortmund full-back Felix Passlack, with the Bundesliga high-flyers eyeing the 19-year-old as a potential replacement for Jeremy Toljan, who has just one year remaining in his contract at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena (Bild)

Don't worry, if the ITK starts rolling in, Lyall will be reporting on it soon!

I remember watching the england vs germany game earlier this summer and the commentators were talking him up. He looked very good (although that is the only time I have seen him).

So we're signing the German Kyle Naughton?

Edit: looked up his picture, he really is Naughton reincarnated as a Jerry -
