Most people on this site seem to have written our own jermaine of for the next season. easily in my views our best midfielder, im not 100% sure on his age and cant be bothered looking but im sure he'd be around 23/24 now really if he is ever gona be wat we want it has to be this season. as we all no jj is the only real goal scoring midfielder we have. But the views im looking for are do u think he could do the job holding.. with modric doing the job he's been expected to going forward. jj is fairly tall round bout 6 ft not really a fantastic tackler but what do u think? or would u give him a run on the RM if the signing of a tru holding talent and shift lennon of?

....GK....
hutton woody king bale
JJ? modric DM capel?
berbs keane

or GK
hutton woody king bale
lennon modric JJ? capel?
berbs keane

just got me thinking last night

we have several players - JJ among them - who would look a lot better if we had 3 truly top shelf players on the pitch with them. JJ can take over a game once in a while, but not weekly. We expect too much from him, but if we had this core of reliable players, then the second tier players - JJ, Lennon, Hudd, and maybe Malbranque, wouldnt have to do everything by themsleves and we'd be talking more about the good things they can do.

A midfield with Modric, Dos Santos AND JJ ? Mmmm...P'raps not.
Add Hud, Steed, Zok, O'Hara, Lennon, KPB, Taarabt, Tainio, even Bostock or Bale as well to mfield, and maybe JJ surplus to rquirements ? He's probably one of the better squad earners, so we;d save on that and he'd fetch a few bob too. Not to say he's a bad player - but better ones are arriving.

Well as a fully paid up member of the 'defend JJ campaign group', I've been writing time and again he'll be part of our first XI next season

Also I do not expect to see JR starting the campaign with a mid that has no players with prem experience in it

I can't honestly see him going anywhere this summer, but I suspect next season may be make or break for him as far as his Spurs career is concerned.

I agree with that 57 - the competition for mid places will hot up - and JJ will either make the necessary step up or it will be best for all for him to go elsewhere - but I'm confident J will meet the challenge

Totally argee, Jenas is a superb player but people expect him to be the main star/playmaker every single game, i think alot of games he does a very good, under-rated job and a lot fans cant see that

(Just my view )

He'll come into his own this season. He won't be hampered with having to worry about having a crap defence behind him and he'll use that natural energy to bomb forward and get a few more goals. Looking forward to the new-look side with JJ being an integral part.

I would dearly love to see JJ 'come into his own' but I just can't see it happening. Too many bad memories and 'hollow promise'? IF we are to take our place at the TOP4 Table we may need someone who gives us a more complete package.....who that might be...I know not!
Watching JJ, in his many ad hoc appearances, at the training ground, there does not seem to be much stirring between his ears......but this is a football team...not Mastermind! I hope that JJ makes a good attempt to show us what he is capable of, at last! COYS!

JJ is an inconsistant performer.

He did well at right back though

We're going to need some real brass in the midfield if our lineup includes Dos Santos/Capel/Modric. Jenas doesn't look like he'll fit.

JJ's versatility will be a great asset for us - both in terms of the positions he could play and his all-round ability.

At home we can play him in the middle as a ball-winner/pop in with the odd goal. Away we could play him on the right with Zokora coming into the center instead.

If our left back position is not solid (still not convinced with Gilberto) we could play AH on the left and JJ down the right.

Bale should be fit for next season, if anything JJ would be decent on the right has a lot of energy to use and he can cross

Cant see JJ playing a holding role as it would be a complete waste of a fantastic engine and a certain amount of goals. In the same way that idiots couldn't see what Carrick did they cant see the great work that JJ does un-noticed either.

I hope i'm right and we see a little of Zoko next season and alot of JJ.

There's no way JJ will play the DM role, it would be a waste. I'm going to be very interested to see his progress next season, as others have said I think this is crunch time for his Spurs career.

Interestingly I think we saw what a seriously fit JJ is capable of in the period that begun shortly b4 Christmas and culminated in the CC Final. With Alvaraz et al we'll see a very different approach to our fitness this year, I know people said we did a pre-season, mid-season but that's not really possible, it was more of a sticking plaster to compensate for our complete lack of fitness on arrival. I also think that Jol's approach (and you have to say it was successful) was to start gently and let the season's rigours toughen up the side meaning a strong finish ala 2007. Ramos' philosophy is very different, he likes to hit the ground running and keep sprinting throughout the season, using a strict and scientific training regime coupled with rotation in-match to keep his player's fit. It was the mis-match of the two - Jol's pre-season, with Ramos mid-season - which led in part to our burn-out and lacklustre performances late on imo; you could visibly see the difference, it was as if the players used a burst of energy in the middle and couldn't sustain it until the end.

Anyway, if JJ can maintain fitness and stamina for an entire season I for one won't be surprised to see him nail down a role in the CM, both for us and possibly even for England.

If he can maintain a high level of play that he is capable of for a whole 90 minutes then he will be an excellent player.

He has all the attributes, its putting them all together consistently. I cant see him being a defensive midfielder because you miss out on so much of his ability. He is capable of being a box to box midfielder, and if we do switch from a 4-4-2 to something like 4-1-3-2 or 4-3-1-2 then I think he can still have a role to play.

He would benefit from having a leader next to him, someone who keeps him going and shouts orders to him. However, time is starting to run out for him to be this world class mdifielder he should be. This season will be critical. With the creativity we are bringing into the squad he should be able to concentrate on getting into the box rather than build up play, which isnt his strong point

Hi Krafty :) nice to see you being basically positive but why do you (and quite a few others that I've read) say JJ 'should be a world class mid' - it's putting an unfair and I would say impossible burden on the player

I've never seen JJ as being a world class player, but nor do I see most of the Spurs team in that light - I don't demand it of Lennon Keane Zokora Malbranque etc - why should I demand it of JJ?

I'm never quite sure what world class means - but I take it as meaning roughly being one of the best players in the world in his position

I only see Berbs as being world class in our team ATM (King doesn't play enough to qualify for me) - maybe Woodgate/ Hutton and some others can consolidate claims next season, maybe not

presumably Modric will be -

The thing with JJ for me is that he has everything he needs to be a truely outstanding footballer. The likes of Lennon (poor technique), Keane (Not as athletic), Zoko (awful technique) and Malbs (Not athletic) all lack certain things for me which is why they'll never be at the very top of this game.

JJ frustrates because he has none of these constraints. He has everything physically to be an awesome player. He should be able to apply himself more and dominate games.
