    From the official site...

Jermain Defoe said the team were determined to put a smile back on the faces of the fans on Wednesday night.

The little hitman, who was restored to the side after making a brief substitute appearance against Arsenal on Saturday, was a lively figure in attack and was particularly unlucky not to score. Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was in inspired form when it came to denying Defoe.

A first half goal from Dimitar Berbatov and a late winner from Robbie Keane sealed the points that moved us up to tenth in the table and just three points off third place.

"The thing is, after a result like on Saturday, you are just desperate to win and want to put a smile back on the fans' faces," said Jermain of the vital win that takes us into Saturday's home meeting with Charlton Athletic in good heart.

"We all stuck together, it was a difficult game, but I think we deserved the three points in the end.

"The keeper made a couple of saves from me and I'm disappointed I didn't get one, although I'm pleased I got into the positions to score. He is good goalkeeper, I scored one past him last year and he's got me back.

"When you lose a game like we did it is difficult to get everything ticking again, but I thought we did well, I enjoyed it and we're happy to get the three points."

Charlton will also arrive at the Lane with confidence boosted following their 1-0 over Blackburn at the Valley on Wednesday. Jermain knows there will be a tough battle for the points.

"We've got another big game against Charlton now and we can't underestimate them," he added. "I know they have struggled, but they got a win on Wednesday and are a good side.

"They will be on a high now and we'll have to use all our quality to get the three points.

"It will be crucial, the manager said he wanted six points from these two games to bring us back into it - and hopefully we can do that."

Nice to see him sounding happy, amid all these stories linking to all over the place.
He played well the other night and is looking very sharp. With Keano now injured for a month this will give Defoe the run of games he craves and i am sure that he will grab the chance with both hands

aint seen jermain come out and talk about a match for ages he is always defending his subs role and now hopefully he gets a place in the team

heard keane is out for a month and mido is out for more week and so berbatov and defoe will play against charlton and dinamo bucharest

dat means someone like tomas pekhart or andy barcham will be on the bench for those games

would like to see same team played for the charlton match if zokora isnt suspended but if he is then either murphy or tainio should come in

and then for the match against dinamo i wouldnt want so many changes because we need to win so we play a third place team instead of a champions league team and so maybe ghaly, tainio and murphy should come in to give some players like lennon a rest

nice one jd, ive gotta say i think defoes attitude at not playing alot has been fantastic, it could of been so easy for him to piss and moan and ask for a transfer but he looks as though hes sticking with it, i dont believe defoe has played up to his potential over the last year or two but i think hes a fantastic player and spurs would be poorer off without him, i now hope he takes his chance and starts scoring loads of goals

The first goal was in the second half unless I'm slightly mental

Hope fully the lads have consistency ! The line up against Charlton has to be
    Robinson,Chimbonda,Dawson,King,Ekotto/Lee,Lennon,Hudd,Jenas/Teemu,Malbranque,Berbatov,Defoe
    Subs:GK,Davenport,Murphy,Peckhart
I really hope we go in with a strong fighting spirit, we need those 3 points, I mean 3 points !

What about Barnard? Is he injured?
  8. Myggleif
I believe he's still injured:( Although I though Mido would be ready for Charlton? Berbatov and Defoe will start, but would be good to have some kind of back up...

With Keane missing, this is Defoes big chance. We want at least four goals from him during december.

I hate to say it but the Boro game may have done us a favour with Zokora's red card and Keane's injury.
They are both very good players but the spine of any team is about partnerships, players who work well together. At the back we have it with Dawson and King whilst in the middle I would prefer Huddlestone and Jenas with Berbatov and Defoe up front.
